Spend a little more and get the x3800h. It was (is?) $900 through an adorama link here.
Off the top of my head…hdmi 2.1 support, airplay 2 support, 4 sub outs, 2 additional amplifiers that (for example) can be used to go from 2 to 4 atmos speakers, 1 more hdmi out, auro 3d, Dirac if you pay for it, and more features that I can't think of atm.
The Denon promo is dead, it's at $1,700 atm

Special calibration mic is about $100
Dirac Live (Limited bandwidth) $259
Dirac Live (Full bandwidth) $349
Dirac Live (Single sub) $349
Dirac Live (Multi sub) $499
or they have some bundles:
Bundle Offer Single - Room Correction Full Bandwidth / Bass Control Single Subwoofer $649
Bundle Offer Multi - Room Correction Full Bandwidth / Bass Control Multi Subwoofer $799
A big option people have brought up with the 3800 is Dirac Room Correction, that comes in two parts.
Dirac Live for your loudspeakers & Dirac Live Bass Control for subwoofers and overall bass integration.
Right now until the 15th they are doing a 30% discount on Dirac Bass Live Control & for a bundle package for both.
Dirac Live Bass Control single sub is $245
Dirac Live Bass Control multi sub is $350
If you didn't take advantage of the 30% discount for Dirac Live in early December which was.
Dirac Live limited bandwidth for $181
Dirac Live full bandwidth for $244
You're in luck, the bundle package saves you another $50!
Dirac Live full bandwidth + Dirac Live Bass Control single sub is $454.
Dirac Live full bandwidth + Dirac Live Bass Control multi sub is $559.
With the $50 savings, applying it to the $100 mic makes it $50!
The great thing is if you really don't need the extra features and want Dirac capabilities you can have it without buying a new receiver!
The 3300 has XT32 and compatible with the Editor app which in turn makes it compatible with Audyssey's MultiEQ-X.
For $199($150 when on sale) gives you all the capabilities of both Dirac RCs and more!
You may not even need it since XT32 + Editor app can easily be good enough.
If you went with the 3800(wait for $900 deal to come back) + the $559 for the Dirac bundle will give all the feature benefits of the Onkyo RZ70.
That's including Dirac's multi Bass Control which you would still have to purchase with the RZ70 for $499.

Thank you for the detailed response. Having some minor connectivity related issues with my 3300 (after 7 years of use), so passively looking for an upgrade. Reasonably happy with my setup that I don't have an upgrade itch yet. I'll see if I can get the XT32+Editor app to work and if that makes a difference. I don't I'd be willing to pay for Dirac separately, but might consider bundled with a newer receiver.

Comparing the RZ70 the X3800
Amp/power supply performance on a whole other planet to the side of the Onkyo RZ70
The same DACs as the $6500 Denon AVR A1H and amp performance within 95% of it
On a cheap note you dont have to buy a Dirac capable calibration mic with the RZ70
So you could say the X3800 gave you all the features and benefits of the A1H..based on your opinion
I dont think that would be a widely accepted opinion...but that is clearly up to you
But using that same logic one would ask why anyone would consider the Denon A1H when the Obkyo RZ70 is out there for less than half the price
Make sure firmware is up to date. Also unplug from power for a minute and then plug back in. I had an hdmi issue in an x3600 that was permanently "fixed" with that procedure. Lots of comments online about issues with the number of firmware updates on the new 3800. Some people suggest that unplugging the unit for a short while fixed their issues as well.

Correct all these discussions are just opinions.
In this case, mine is based on personal experience using both.
I guess I should have said other than the power feature, the 3800 would have the rest of the RZ70s features for much less.
Now whether you need that extra power or a significant benefit is a whole other topic and a personal decision.
Another popular feature is room correction.
People often say DIRAC is head and shoulders superior.
If true you would have to add $500(for DLBC) to the RZ70 to get the same superior performance.
I would point out it's rumored the 3800 may get Dirac's latest RC(ART) option in the future.
Very unlikely for the RZ70 since its 4 sub outs are not independent like the 3800.
The 3800 uses the same DAC as the 6700 so not too shabby in that department.
The A1H isn't a fair comparison since the A1H offers something you don't/cant get with the 3800, many more channels of processing.
So depending on someone's feature priorities, the 3800 can be a good choice imo.
