The power limiting is a safety feature to prevent over heating that ONLY shows up in tests benches with volume maxed out test tones. Music, home theater and gaming never has those kinds of situations.

The previous series of pioneer models have the same amps as the new ones except for that feature and have shown to be very high quality powerful amps.
I'm guessing you've seen this already but my interpretation was that there is clipping even with normal usage :

"…Protection mode is entirely different thing as it disables amplification altogether. That is not at all the topic of discussion. Power limiting as I keep saying has no indication. The amp simply gets more distorted as it gets into clipping region but keeps operating."

"I am a retired Electrical Engineer, I confirmed the time based amplifier limiting as described by Amir.
I selected stereo pure direct mode with 8 ohm loads and applied a 1Khz sinusoidal waveform at the CD inputs.. Power output was set to about 25 watts RMS and monitored with Oscope. After about 30 seconds I heard an internal relay click and observed slight clipping on both channels. After power off for a few minutes and restarting the unit, I observed a clean 115 W RMS output, and once again the click and waveform clipping..The fan never came on! Musical signal at hi level will also activate the clipping after a few minutes. Totally unacceptable! Pioneer Elite? Say What?"

Adorama must have gotten a fresh shipment because I've been checking and as of Thursday they didn't have any of that model. Great price.

Lots of reports of power throttling for no clear reason well before the 120w limit on various AV forums. Otherwise would have been an easy buy

I'm very impressed with mine after 4 months of use. Sound quality is light years better than my 15 year old Yamaha. I wish the remote were a bit better. Feels like a kiddy toy. Other than that its been nice to use especially with eARC and my TV remote controlling the volume easily without even having to have IR available

How does this compare to the Denon AVR-X2700H? Does it have issues with the HDMI ports?

Ugh just picked up the 305....

Beyond the preouts and extra channel is there really anything extra this offers? 305 seems to have plenty of power for me.

Dirac live is also a feature in the 503. The 505 gets 2 more channels and more power.

I was waiting on the ~$550 price for the Onkyo nr7100. How does this compare? Is Dirac free on this one too?

Is Pioneer Elite made like it was years ago? Their TVs are crap. Is ownership the same or did they sell their name rights?

What would be the differences between this and SC-97? Its running Pioneer Elite 5.1.4 system.
