The previous series of pioneer models have the same amps as the new ones except for that feature and have shown to be very high quality powerful amps.
"…Protection mode is entirely different thing as it disables amplification altogether. That is not at all the topic of discussion. Power limiting as I keep saying has no indication. The amp simply gets more distorted as it gets into clipping region but keeps operating."

"I am a retired Electrical Engineer, I confirmed the time based amplifier limiting as described by Amir.
I selected stereo pure direct mode with 8 ohm loads and applied a 1Khz sinusoidal waveform at the CD inputs.. Power output was set to about 25 watts RMS and monitored with Oscope. After about 30 seconds I heard an internal relay click and observed slight clipping on both channels. After power off for a few minutes and restarting the unit, I observed a clean 115 W RMS output, and once again the click and waveform clipping..The fan never came on! Musical signal at hi level will also activate the clipping after a few minutes. Totally unacceptable! Pioneer Elite? Say What?"

Beyond the preouts and extra channel is there really anything extra this offers? 305 seems to have plenty of power for me.
