You may want to clarify that "cycle" probably won't end for a decade. For example Office 2013 was supported until April 2023. Office 2016 and 2019 are slated to be sunset (as of now) in 2025 though. Might change, might not.

This is not a subscription. It's a one time key for software that will lose updates at the end of version cycle.

This is a gray market key, aka, volume key.
you can find those volume keys around this price (about 20 dollar for MS office and 6 for windows) from gray market sellers, so the price is nothing amazing.

just don't expect this is a completely legit key. (it probably going to work, in fact, i bet this will definitely work, as i never expect MS to actually audit those keys), just don't fool yourself thinking you are buying a 439 dollar key for 25 dollars

You have to email the address in the Groupon and tell them you bought it with the # from Groupon. Then they send an email with the code but you must download it from their link in their email. Not download Office from Microsoft.

If you could get these keys added to setup.office.com using a MS account, these would be valid as similar a proper retail license. If these keys are not accepted within you MS account, this could be a volume key or even a developer network key and those are not perpetual.

I bought a Visio key off eBay a few years ago to do some floor plan and it was deactivated by MSFT recently. So, yes, you take a risk.

what's surprising lately is that woot has been offering these grey market key and woot is owned by Amazon.

Yep. I bought a Windows 11 Pro key from Woot. When I went to install it, it was not valid.

These will not validate if you enter the key at the installation or setup screen. You have to complete installation and setup, then go to settings and activate from there. I've bought over 10+ licenses over the years and never had an issue with activating through settings.

grey market key, not a deal, even at $25
I bought a copy for $1.25
In 180 days it will probably quit working. Many of those insanely cheap keys are actually MSDN keys that expire after 180 days. Many websites sell them, and they appear legit as they do unlock and activate - but once 180 days are up they are no longer functional.

The past "cycles" lasts for nearly a decade. 2016's support ends in 2025. That's 90% of a decade. Clearly I wasn't counting Office 2016's cycle starting Dec 27th of 2023.

Heck, I even posted a link detailing the exact sunset date (for updates, but not usefulness)....which you quoted.
Had an interesting back and forth with a few members on an O365 subscription vs. license... and everyone is apparently drinking the subscription "cloud kool-aid". For personal use, I use licensed products exclusively. And they still include OneDrive and OneNote sync across devices. 10 year TCO is pennies vs. the subscription model.

That's probably why the international code re-cycler (NerdUsed) choose Woot. Many think Woot is strictly a reseller of sold-by-Amazon inventory. In many ways, it's no different from Groupon, Stack Social, or any other independent marketplace site.

But people that buy from Woot, or people that pay more for their internationally re-purposed install code think that they're getting a "more real" authentic product. They're not. So paying $20-$40 for these codes is no different than paying $1.50 for these codes on international sites. It's likely the same supplier anyway (NerdUsed).

Note: An install code is not the same as a software license, and a software license is not the same for all categories of software licenses. It's that confusion that has made the NerdUsed group very wealthy, wherever they are actually located (Turkey? Iran? Russia? Bulgaria?).

I bought a license from this deal, installed as instructed, and viewed the type of license using command prompt. The installed license was for office MSDN Retail.
I contacted the seller and returned the product, since for me personally I don't want a piece of software that may or may not quit working at any time in the future.

It ends in less than three years, not a decade as you suggest. There is no extended support for Office 2021.
Office is supported for 5 years then it goes on paid LTSC if desired., but that's not available (for the first time ever) for Office 2021. This puts support ending Oct 2026 with no long term support available. It will still function past that date, just no further support from Microsoft.
