Because H&R Block and Intuit work very hard to make sure the government isn't allowed to do so.

Yup! One word: lobbying.

Gotta love our corrupt system, causing people to spend millions of extra dollars and God knows how many man-hours filing tax returns that really have no reason to exist in this day and age.

Curious... About to purchase either this and realize our PC no longer has the CD drives. How do people use the CD version? Guess I have to purchase the download version unless I get an extra external CD drive to plug in.
I have had an external drive for many years.

You cannot use the no rush credits on the gift card deal so you have to choose whether you want to pay less or the gift card.
Yeah... Frown I only have $3 in credits so will go the GC route for now. Thanks for confirming.

Just went through the thread but didn't find a discussion:

I've been using Turbotax Online for years now - very convenient to just log in and pick up from last year.
Besides price, is there any reason to go with the installed program route?

Maybe keeping my tax info off their servers?

(Update: I think I'm going to go with this desktop version this year - now that my kids are filing taxes (welcome to adulting), it seems that I can handle their federal returns with this one desktop license)

First time buyer... Can someone please tell me if this is the same package I use?
TurboTax Online Premier 2022
TurboTax Online State #1
TurboTax Online State #2
Total is around 200$

Will this one cover my Federal + 2 States?
TurboTax Premier 2023 + $10 Amazon Gift Card
If this works, it would save me alot of money.
Thanks.

For Costco members, they are offering basically the same deal, as this one-day offer from amazon. At Costco, the deal goes until Jan 21 for turbo tax software, all flavors, and they are including one $10 Credit Towards In-Product Add-Ons, such as state efile.

Since this is a "one day only" if you miss it, and are a Costco member who pays to efile state taxes, this matches this deal...the $10 credit vs the $10 amazon gc will be a wash for some folks, for those who don't need the efile, or other add-ons, amazon is better for today only...but hardly a great deal, considering how much the price for this software has gone up.

Also, with the desktop version, you should only need the Deluxe version. With the web version, to do anything related to investments, you need Premier. With the desktop version, Deluxe handles investments.

The desktop/computer version of Deluxe has the ability to do investment transactions, which requires the web version to be Premier.

You'll get one state tax preparation software module for free, but will need to purchase a second state, I think it costs $40 for the additional state software..

You will be able to e-file your federal return for free. For the state returns, you may have to pay to e-file them through TurboTax. Cost is about $20 per state. You can, if your state allows, print and file via the mail without paying the e-file cost.

Does the desktop version handle rental property? Thanks!

Yes, you can enter rental property taxes in the desktop version of Deluxe.

So if I buy the Download version and want to efile like before,
it would be 65 + 40 additional state + 20 state efile + 20 state efile
= 145$ before tax
Does that seem correct?

You have to go to your local palm reader and pay them $15, and then they will predict the future for you and let you know if a better deal on the premier is coming.

So are all these deals $10 more because of inflation? Or is it likely we'll see last year's prices if we wait a little more?
What do we think? It's hard to know. Maybe Presidents day.
