I think for most kids, yes, but appetites vary a lot between kids.

Our middle-schooler uses this lunch box everyday (alongside two separately packed snacks) and it's plenty to get them through their day and after school activities.

This lunchbox is more space efficient than most others with its built in ice pack (handy if your packing into already over-stuffed backpacks). But the included ice pack is smallish so it may be inadequate to keep the contents cool during long hot days - depending on climate and how/where it's kept at school, of course.

Overall, we've been pleased and will be ordering a couple more for convenience.

Hope that helps.

Will the compartments hold enough food for an elementary school age kid?

For elementary school it is slim and compact enough. The trade off is lighter load in the school bag but may not hold enough food for your big appetite kid.

Good deal, these got both of our kids through elementary, but for our son, by the time he hit 5th grade it was a little short on space.

Excellent designs, though…5+ years of regular dishwashering and the gaskets are all still intact.

Once they outgrow them for meals, they still work for snacks.

Do you send the covers through the dishwasher? I have been handwashing the boxes and just dishwashing the inserts, but now I feel like I've wasted years of my life handwashing 3 of these every day! Haha

My friend dishwashered the outer parts and they became too tight to fit the inserts in, so YMMV - we have been dishwashering only the inserts for this reason

Beware it only holds the food "chill", not "warm".

Instructions on the box recommend not to put the outer part in the dishwasher

These were on sale recently for $5 in stores. YMMV. I got a couple. Remember they don't have a ton of space but the quality is super good.

Perhaps, but I'm short on yen and not currently living in Japan.
