just received the phone and when checked on AT&T and Verizon sites for phone status it showed as unlocked. is it the same for other?

How did you check? Most IMEI Checkers at a carrier/provider's site can only check whether or not the phone is compatible with their service hardware wise. They can't tell the unlock status of an Android phone.
