It is (or was) slick because the price dropped.
Battery quality is only really important depending on your usage. Batteries like these are good for basic devices that just need power. I use these in my calculators, remotes, hygrometers, etc. Save the nice batteries for electronics and flashlights.

And not worth paying extra for the higher capacity AAA as it is only 850mah compared to this 800mah.
and this version can charge 1000x versus 500x (if anyone would ever charge a battery that many times before losing it)
