Just my opinion but a toothbrush doesn't need Bluetooth connectivity

The whole point of brushing is to prevent Bluetooth.

Bluetooth is old school, we need wifi6 on the brush with oral b app store to download different "apps" that can do various vibrations and lighting on the brush.

  • The Oral-B PRO 5000 Smartseries rechargeable electric toothbrush with Bluetooth .
  • Bluetooth communication allows the brush to connect with your SmartPhone to give you real-time feedback on your brushing habits.
  • The Floss Action brush head gives you a floss-like clean for healthier gums vs. a regular manual brush (it does not replace flossing).
  • The pressure sensor lights up if you brush too hard to prevent harmful over-brushing and there are 5 modes and a timer to help you brush for a dentist recommended 2 minutes. Best of all it's brought to you by Oral-B .
  • In-handle timer pulses every 30 seconds to let you know when to switch areas of the mouth

I paid about $200 when this toothbrush first came out. That was about 10 years ago, maybe. I know that was dumb. I used the Bluetooth and the app once.

FWIW this is a good price for an Oral B 5000 even without the bluetooth (which I agree is 10000% pointless).

I do really like my Oral B's. Been using one for quite awhile now, probably almost 10 years. TBH I don't see that much difference between my pricier Oral B's like this 5000 vs. the cheapo $30 kid ones I buy my kids. Yes, the expensive ones have more settings, but I don't see any indication that these are beneficial long term, as even my brush with 5 different settings basically only gets used on 1.

I will say just from experience of having tried switching to Philips sonicare brushes, that Oral B is def. the way to go. At the time I was traveling a lot and the battery life of Sonicare was apealing (claimed up to 2 weeks vs 1 week for Oral B). Not talking about what's more effective cleaning, by most accounts they're both really good and way better than normal brushing, but the sonic motors in Philips brushes have (for me) a 100% failure rate. Like clockwork every single one I bought died in about 1 year. They're on avg. more expensive than oral b's, and went through 3 of them before I finally just went back to Oral B brushes.

I've never had one oral b motor fail on me, even the cheapo $30 kid ones.

What's the take on the numbered series (4000, 5000) versus the iO series?

I believe this model has Li-ion battery inside. Better performance when compared to lower end (Pro1000/1500) series that uses NiMh battery.

I think they say "actual" brushing (ie how oral b swirls around your teeth) is better than just moving a vibrating brush head over your teeth

Why does the black one say it's "5 piece set"?

I like part "they say" 😂. Both brands are fine and perform similarly in real life. Some clinical reviews will favor one brand and another will favor the other.

Or music like those music tune kid tooth brushes. Just different 2 minute clips of gen pop songs.
For me some days it feels like 10 minutes and others feel like wow done already.
