Keep in mind the ACE being E-ATX, Unify is ATX

The better buy is the Z690 ACE for $249 plus a $50 rebate to bring it down to $199. Thunderbolt 4 built-in along with a better audio solution (an ESS dac).

Crazy the normal retail is $550. That's almost 65% off after rebate. Newegg has it for $260 after rebate. Super nice motherboard with very high-end features. Almost starting to think about getting one. I said to myself I am good with my 9900k still for awhile.

Not many people own a motherboard at the ACE level. Hmmmm.

Keep in mind there is no phone support for the MSI store. While MSI tech support is great, I think they outsource their .com fulfillment to a company that doesn't care about their brand

What rebate?
On MSI's Z690 Meg ACE's page it has the link to the rebate. It also states a $50 rebate for the MPG 690 EDGE Wifi on the list and a whole bunch of $10 and $20 rebates for things like water coolers and video cards.

I haven't built an Intel- based PC in over a decade, and I need to replace an old Dell workstation that's I've had running TrueNAS for over 10 years. Is there any reasonably capable CPU under 70-80W that will work with this board?

I'm guessing Thunderbolt cannot pass through discrete GPU rendered video?
Actually you can on the ace and maybe this. Check if the motherboard has displayport input. Usually mini display port input. You plug GPU to that on MB then can use thunderbolt to monitor I believe -Double check me before purchasing but assuming that is what you were looking to do should work

Yeah, I got one for stability. Originally got an ASUS, but on the 3rd RMA with that one. ASUS warranty is good to deal with, but having to go through 3+ $350 boards isn't encouraging on long term stability. My 2600 Intel went 8+ years before the MB caps started giving up.

Just realize my iCue5000x can take E-ATX so the Ace is the perfect match. Thank you OP

the features you get are nuts for this price point. a very slick deal. 5 nvme slots! the latest wifi and bluetooth are a nice bonus.
