Tile will do that to all bits if you don't cool them with water. I use bosch bits on tiles all the time. They are better than most brands for sure. Use water when they get hot.

I'll add my experience to this as well. I have used these Bosch bits for drilling tile and they worked great, but keeping the bits cool as you drill is a must! This is a great deal.

Why are they described as glass and tile hammer drill bits? Wouldn't using a hammer drill on glass or tile result in shattering the glass or tile?

These are garbage, don't waste your money! I bought these two weeks ago and bits don't do through tiles, they get hot and burn out quickly!

Agreed with comments above, Milwaukee or Diablo stone/tile/glass bits are better.

Came here to agree with you both. I have done a few hundred holes with a couple of these sets. In tile and in mirrors. It's not quick, but they work well, and they tend to walk less than the abrasive mini hole saw style bits.

If you only have to do a couple holes in tile once in a great while, you might get away with a regular carbide-tipped masonry bit using the same method— go slow and use water to keep the bit cool.

One more thing. Bosch and Diablo are under the same corporate umbrella. Diablo glass and tile bits of this style will be the same bits.

I've used another brand similar to this. They always get hot and will start smoking if you don't keep it cool. I used them to drill holes in ceramic planter pots.

I do not recommend this type of drill bit for tile. Get diamond tip circular drill bits and be sure to use a spray bottle to squirt water on the contact point to cool down the bit and prevent the dust from getting in your nose.

I've never drilled glass. Is this really as simple as plowing one of these through? I want to put a 3/4" hole through a 5/16" thick piece of glass.

These are for ceramics (no feldspar), and they work fine when used as intended, they are not for the porcelain you were assaulting
