Regularly these are around $30 so this is a nice deal. I got one as a gift and keep it at office. It keeps bottles at 6-7 C (normal fridges are set at 4 C, measured by putting a meat thermometer inside), but takes at least overnight to cool to that temp. It uses significantly more energy compared to a theoretically same size fridge but since it is a very small form factor, comparison is kinda apples vs oranges. It constantly works to cool and constantly spins its fan, and if you put it at a high temp place it may be useless (my office is kept at 20 C). Supposedly uses 48W (or 40 if powered through car 12V outlet). Can be handy for long trips but I found using ice is much more practical. At work it is useful especially if you have food stealing coworkers from the shared fridge, you can keep this under your desk.

I've had two of these and they last about a year before the fan dies.

I haven't reached to that point but I can see that it will happen. Will try to spray some wd40 when it happens.
Basic PC fan is like $2.

These just use a Peltier element; no moving parts for the actual heat transfer (no condensor/evap/compressor), but need a fan to blow the heat away.

As for filling it with more cans, won't matter...it removes the same amount of heat, and the additional cans are better conductors than the air.

This is basically the same as the Xbox fridge that was listed a few days ago... same concept. .... in a nut shell just buy a ice pack and a cooler ... unless you like buying items to waste money on, run up your electric bill and be disappointed that it doesn't cool like your household fridge that uses refrigerant, not a metal heat sink and a fan to drop the temp a couple degrees below room temperature.

I have this same fridge to keep bugs for my reptiles without killing them. I got it specifically because it isn't very efficient and the lowest temp mine gets is about 53 degrees in a closet that is 72-75 degrees. So it's a good bait and makeup fridge, but if you're wanting something ice cold, this isn't it.

I really can't stand the fan noise from these things. They are junk Novelty items that don't really last.

but will take longer to cool (despite higher thermal conductivity) because of the larger thermal mass that the heat needs to be removed from.

Only initially; if you top up the cans as you use them instead of waiting until it's empty, it will work more efficiently because the cold air won't escape when you open it (since there's very little air), and the remaining cans will be a larger heat reservoir.

Why do people still buy this garbage? If you really want a mini fridge, buy a real mini fridge....you can get one used for probably less than this fake fridge.

This is about right. Thermoelectric cooling, keeps my sodas mildly cool at my call center cubicle. When I want a soda, I go to the Starbucks and get a cup of ice and will with my 55F soda, which is better in terms of carbonation and less ice meltage compared to room temp cans. For coffee, I just steal from the break room from the reg workers who get better privileges than us call-centric indianic folks

Lol your comment resembles the people I work with. Indians completely dominate coding work in my industry. Not sure if it's because they have the most talent or because they are the cheapest, but the first time I descended into the bowels of data work in the lower floors I was surprised to find myself in a small new Delhi. Delightful really.

In my experience, the fan quit spinning, but it was the circuit board that died.

I got one of these on sale at Walmart for cheap. I use it for my makeup serums. They don't get super cold, but it's been working for the last year and half.

Cool not cold. It's largely based on the ambient temperature. No thermostat like a traditional refrigerator that cools to a set point. Our house is probably 72F and I think when I measured it brought it down about 20 degrees to 52F.

These are definitely not efficient but for work use, who cares. The company is paying the electric bill.
