Not a bad Gaming laptop for the price but if you care about color fidelity skip this one unless of course your going to use an external monitor. The built in screen is 45% NTSC which is pretty bad and max brightness is 350 nits so not good for outside.

lol someone in the other cheaper rtx 4050 laptop deal said 250 nits isn't enough and 300 nits is needed for gaming and here you are saying 350 nits isn't enough. That's just NITS-picking LMAO

How many people do you see with gaming laptops outside where you live?

First of all it's winter, so a lot of people wouldn't bother. Maybe you're that one Florida man gaming in the backyard for 30mins under direct sunlight 😂

The 7735 CPU is a Zen3+ chip (AKA renamed 6000-series CPU). The 7840 is a true Zen4 chip. The Legion 5 does have a better screen, though. So it's your call what's more important to you.

Thank you very much for the response! I've always built my own desktops so laptop gaming is new to me. From what I've seen these might be the best I can do for under 1k.

How soon do you want the laptop? There have been a few more pretty good gaming laptops just shy of $1k, so if you can wait, chances are those deals might come around again.

That being said, if you have an external monitor, I'd advise you to opt for LOQ as it has a powerful processor. If you don't, then leigon 5 is the way to go.

As for performance, I found the site: https://pc-builds.com/bottleneck-calculator/

The tool appears to estimate whether the CPU 'bottlenecks' the system's performance when a discrete GPU is present/available. In the INTENSE GRAPHICS USE case, the issue is whether the CPU can feed graphics data to the GPU quickly enough and in quantity. Here are some of the linked tool's results:

GENERAL USE:

For the 7-7840HS + RTX 4060 combo:
  • AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS is too weak for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 on 1920 × 1080 pixels screen resolution for General Tasks. This configuration has 11.3% of processor bottleneck.
For the 7-7735HS + RTX 4060 combo:
  • AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS is too weak for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 on 1920 × 1080 pixels screen resolution for General Tasks. This configuration has 16.2% of processor bottleneck.
  • AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS is too weak for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 on 2560 × 1440 pixels screen resolution for General Tasks. This configuration has 7.8% of processor bottleneck.
INTENSE GRAPHICS USE:

For the 7-7840HS + RTX 4060 combo:
  • AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 will work great together on 1920 × 1080 pixels screen resolution for Graphic Card Intense Tasks. This configuration has 0.0% of bottleneck . Everything less than 5% should not be concerned major bottleneck.
For the 7-7735HS + RTX 4060 combo:
  • AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 will work great together on 1920 × 1080 pixels screen resolution for Graphic Card Intense Tasks. This configuration has 0.0% of bottleneck . Everything less than 5% should not be concerned major bottleneck.
  • AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 will work great together on 2560 × 1440 pixels screen resolution for Graphic Card Intense Tasks. This configuration has 0.0% of bottleneck . Everything less than 5% should not be concerned major bottleneck.
I haven't unpacked these results yet, but wanted to get them (and the tool) to SDers for investigation and use.
