Well doesn't really work that way.
Any movies can be converted/transferred to UHD.

Regarding HDR, a movie is transferred to metadata.
How well that transfer happens determines how well the PQ turns out, not what the movie was shot in.

As examples look at John Wick 4, compared to the other 3.
It's the only one that got a decent transfer imo.

Compare Wick 4 to say an older movie like Titanic, it's PQ & AQ are better than any of the Wick movies imo.

Are you folks actually looking at some of these numbers? Better deals can be had on ebay for example for many of these older titles. It's not like an optical disk really wears out and lots of sellers are buy 2 get one free. Just sayin, before you spend $11+ per disk on Amazon, you might want to check out ebay first.

But the day is coming when folks with the original optical media will be the only ones left with quality media. All this streaming crap is destroying everything of quality, so pay more if you have to, but make sure you get your favorite movies on 4K optical disks. Because everything else is just super compressed uncivilized no rules streaming crap!

Optical disks won't wear out but 4K UHD discs are more prone to playback issues (if there are scratches) than regular Blu-Ray discs and DVDs.

4K "bluray" UDH disks are problematic because they can be 2-4 optical data/media layers thick but no different than any other disk on the market aside from density.

Not arguing or disagreeing with you, just a little side tangent here to help clarify for those maybe a little less in the know:

All optical media in the past 30+ years is 'digital' and when it holds video it was called a DVD (digital video disk) and when it only holds audio it was called a CD (compact disk). Then came Bluray.... It's still just a digital optical disk the same as any other but it can hold a bunch more data and uses the new 'blue' laser to read/write 2-4 layers thick. 4K is a picture size, UHD and HD and Ultra anything is just marketing noise for the sake of confusion. It's all digital, it's all always been digital, but now the kids in the marketing department try to sell you "digital" specific media, as if it's something new????

I hate the now meaningless words used today; Digital Media, HD, UHD, PRO! The numbers are what matters and they are easier to communicate once you know them well enough.

480 - Standard broadcast definition prior to 1999 in a 4:3 aspect ratio.
720 - The first time you heard about HD (high definition) and it was 16:9 aspect ratio.
1080 - Now called "true" HD since everything else was fake prior to, still 16:9.
3840 - UHD, 4K, and it's still just bluray. But 3840 is only consumer grade 4K, you have yet to see "true" UHD which is 4096. I prefer the simple "4K" designation either way for clean and translatable communication. Maybe 4Kp for the (pro) version once they all get around to it. The (p) used to mean 'progressive scan', but that's another tangent for another time.

I hope my little rant helped someone,,,, I feel better at least so there's that.

Very confusing way to convey that information. You start by using the vertical pixel count (which everyone uses) and then switch to the horizontal pixel count, which no one uses by itself.

4k is 2160. Thats the number to compare to 720 or 1080, etc.

I understand your confusion, the world made it that way quite intentionally. But I did not make a mistake. I started with 4:3 aspect ratio then transitioned to 16:9, the same way the manufacturers did it is how I spelled it out. What is 1080 times 4? Annnnd, that is where 4K comes from. It's supposed to be 4 times bigger badder better then 1080 "true HD". It's not 2160, but 4096 rounded off. But then it's shrunk for us mere consumers to 3840, which has something to do with screen bezel's I think.

Anyway, I hope this helps a little.
