If you have the Shop Your Way credit card, you probably already know about the great statement credits offered throughout the year. Check your email because I just received the following offer:

Earn up to $2,400.00 back in statement credits this year with this offer!
Activate this limited-time offer by 2/15/2024!
Use your card each month for the rest of the year on eligible gas station, grocery store, and restaurant purchases.

Each month you can earn a:
$100 Statement Credit when you spend $1,000 - $1,999.99 each month*
OR
$200.00 Statement Credit when you spend $2,000 or more each month*

*Activation required. Rewards are based on eligible gas station, grocery store, and restaurant purchases each month until 12/31/2024.

There is not a credit card that that can even come close to a 10% return (excluding new CC signup bonuses), not to mention that you get 5% extra rewards in points on gas purchases (up to $10K). If you have a family, it is not very difficult to reach the first threshold of $1000 per month. For some reason, this card is rarely mentioned as a top card on websites, yet I've consistently earned $2000+ in statement credits each year for 5+ years.

I just checked now today, gas at my nearest Costco and Sams club is 2.81. Guess how much the regular gas stations are on the same road as the sams club? Yup, 2.81. Maybe you should check out gasbuddy.com or something like that before commenting on something you know so little about.

Well, like it says in the title, YMMV. Those were just example gas stations I used to answer another question. I can get gas from stations in my travels that are equal to or .01 -.02 per gallon off from Costco gas and I don't have to pay a membership fee to get it. I suppose you'll next tell me about the 10%+ savings on the quality food you get from Costco, lol. Move along, troll.
Costco prices are really not that great.
Quality of meats veggies fish etc..is mediocre.
Usually I can do better at local grocery stores or local specialty market.

Car related service discounts is where they make it worthwhile.
7 cars @ 7-12 tire rotations/balance.
Car insurance savings of over $1500/year.
My Impact rated Insulated garage Doors...saved over $3800 for 3

But if you are really interested in saving money and be tied to a credit card, then BJ's has absolute best deal going.
10cents or 15cents off their (already lower than competitors) gas prices

So gas at your Costco is more than 30 cents / gallon cheaper?

Every gas station except for those at wholesale clubs and Walmart qualify.
At least 30 cents cheaper, sometimes 40 or 50 cents cheaper plus using costco cc gives me rewards on costco gas hug

Thanks for the link; it's a significant upgrade from "How Stoopid." The car insurance and related expenses may be great, but is way off topic. This isn't a discussion about the merits of a wholesale club membership, although they can be debated. The BJs closest to me has a regular gas price of $2.89 / gallon today, which is 8 cents higher than the other gas stations that I frequent.

The card that gets you 15 cents off comes at a $55 premium (on top of the $55 you already pay for the "privilege" to spend your money there). 15 cents is like 5% off today's rate, so it still can't compare to the 10% statement credit plus the 5% in rewards that can be used for Amazon GCs, etc. Your rewards are only good for purchases at BJs (how convenient, lol) and I don't have to drive around looking for a BJs to fill up, especially when I am out of town.

Finally, you still have not addressed the other 10% categories, including restaurants. If you are living at home with mom and dad this deal is not for you. If you have a family that eats real food, this deal cannot be beat.

At 50 cents off, I would keep buying gas there, but I am skeptical that it is that much cheaper. I'd love to know your zip so i could check gasbuddy. You might live in a small town with only one pump, so I guess its possible. In the Northeast, its not nearly that great of a deal on gas. 40 cents off a gallon is 14% off the regular price of gas for me in my area. If you are restricted to spending the rewards at Costco, it cannot compare to a statement credit of 10% where I can spend my money where I'd like (and with the other 5% in rewards, I can buy gift cards for whatever category I want).

Either way, the groceries and restaurant savings for a family make the deal worth it, if it is available to you. I understand that it is a YMMV and not for everyone, but I put that in the title. Smilie

Wow that Valero price is "stoopid." 8 minutes north of there (Murphy Delray) its $2.99.

20 minutes south (Valero Pompano) its $2.87.

I find it funny that you picked the most expensive station in the area to compare. I understand that time is money, so I guess for you it makes sense to get gas at the Costco. Is it a tourist trap there around the Valero in Boca? We have those too, but only out-of-towners or non-slickdealers get gas there.

Again, you are forced to pay at least $55 up front and spend the rewards at Costco / BJs, which is certainly fine if you do most of your shopping there. Still, it doesn't invalidate the value of this deal.
