This post indicates GF A3 is inferior to the GF 3. It states the 3 has 100% J (ie low tolerance) capacitors while the A3 only has it on the main capacitor. It also states there's more efficiency with the 3.

GF 3 and GF A3 are slightly different according to this review:

GF3 is A-tier. Not sure about GF-A3. Just repeating what is said in the review. Have no experience with the PSU myself.

A tier. I got the 1050 watt a few days ago. The only thing I wish was the cables were sleeved.

Was about to jump on this, but checking out the reviews on newegg [newegg.com] gave me pause. Doesn't seem as reliable at the regular G3. Decided to go with a Seasonic Focus instead.

Exactly. I was going to buy the 1000W version yesterday but stopped after reading the reviews.

Every SD thread on the Thermaltake GF3 has folks mention that it's an A-tier PSU. But one needs to remember that the tier lists are formed based on professional reviews, where the reviewers can only test performance, but not reliability. This PSU's performance might be very good, but the customer reviews are dismal. Too many people complaining that it died after a few months or weeks. And it's not just a small percentage of people. Moreover, it's not the typical bad PSU reviews of high fan noise, or power spikes etc. All those reviews mention that the GPU just straight up dies. The number of people on every review site complaining about the same thing shows that this PSU clearly has quality control issues.

I don't care how good their warranty is, or how good their customer service is. The fact that so many people are complaining, means it's not worth the risk -- A-tier or not. Not having to deal with customer service is even better than getting good customer service Smilie.

Personally, I went the 1000W Deepcool PX1000G. It's $150 on Amazon and $140 on Newegg. Decent price for a 1000W and it's speculative A-Tier (whatever that means). Not that many reviews as the Thermaltake, but at least the ones that are there are decent enough. Also, I liked the fact that they exchanged one SATA port with a PCIe port; it has 5 PCIe ports and only 3 SATA ports apart from the 12VHPWR port (most PSU's in that class have 4 PCIe and 4 SATA). Nowadays, folks need more PCIe ports. Plus SATA ports are so easy to daisy-chain. I would rather have an extra PCIe port considering some larger cards need 3 PCIe.

Titanium or nothing. At least if you have Neversource.

This isn't on the A list. A variation of this, the GF 3, not the GF A3, is the one that's on the A list. The GF A3 is specifically on the speculative list.

Where is the A list? I haven't build a computer in 12 year. Im also lost on how to estimate how many watts I need. I Always used Seasonic, but see they want $300-400 for one.

Quietness and stability are must.

Where's this A list?

I got that MSI ACE board an i9, a case and memory so far.

I can only speak for myself here but I've had the 1200w version powering a 5900x and a 4090 for over a year now and haven't had an issue yet. No random shutdowns, no weird PC behavior, no noise or coil whine. The only thing I've noticed is that it pumps out a lot of heat.

I do 3D rendering, Unreal Engine work and gaming so I really have my PC blasting on all cylinders a lot.

Do what you will with this info.

I upgraded from an older Corsair 750w to a Thermaltake GF A3 1200w and couldn't believe the difference in size. The Thermaltake was so small!! It's powering my 4090 without any problems.
