I heard Samsung refrigerators are the most reliable in the industry when it comes to prematurely breaking down.

Luck of the draw with most appliance brands these days … our Samsung refrigerator is still running well after 5 years.

Same here, we have a samsung running strong after 9 years. Pretty much this type, but older

My Samsung has been running strong for 8 years. Stay away from Whirlpool and KitchenAid they are trash.

This.

Our GE profile lasted 3 years

LG lasted 4 years

Samsung, bought a 5 year extended warranty and never got to use it, it's going 7 years strong

Don't buy Samsung. Ask me how I know. I'm an expert now at how to remove the ice from hitting the fan on a monthly basic.

I called to Samsung after 6 years of buying Samsung ...they were aware about the issue and they said they will replace the part without any cost to me

This blanket statement is as useless as the ones about Samsung or LG models all being trash.

I'm curious - Is it possible to turn-off/unplug the ice/water attachment if I never intend to connect a water line? My existing GE side-by-side fridge (~6-8 years old will regularly ice up and not cool. I'm tired of defrosting it) I need a counter-depth fridge ASAP... but I don't need any frills.

I've been reading every fridge threads on SD for the past 3 months and it does seem there are some statistical significance to the Samsung/LG fridge complaints, but seems to be concentrated a few years ago. I guess if I need to buy a potential lemon, COSTCO is the best place to buy it...

Our Samsung is 11 year old. Had ice spout frozen once which was taken care by home warranty. No other issues so far.

All corners of the Internet seem to unanimously agree to stay away from Samsung applications

Yes, their phones and tablets come loaded with useless applications that are best deleted.
Some people also claim their appliances are garbage, too, but opinions vary widely, and they continue to sell over 1.34 bajillion every year.

This particular model has all the features I want (counter depth, French door, ice in door, goofy unnecessary drawer), and it does get a decent 4.2 star rating across 800+ reviews at Costco, but I'm leery of the brand.
