I'm curious - Is it possible to turn-off/unplug the ice/water attachment if I never intend to connect a water line? My existing GE side-by-side fridge (~6-8 years old will regularly ice up and not cool. I'm tired of defrosting it) I need a counter-depth fridge ASAP... but I don't need any frills.

I've been reading every fridge threads on SD for the past 3 months and it does seem there are some statistical significance to the Samsung/LG fridge complaints, but seems to be concentrated a few years ago. I guess if I need to buy a potential lemon, COSTCO is the best place to buy it...
You're confusing people whining on a deals site with actual statistical significance. Sure, there are plenty of anecdotal reports of Samsung and LG being the spawn of Satan himself, but that's not even close to statistical significance, as there are no numbers compiled and no hit of actual significance. And reviews at retailer sites would say otherwise - they seem to do about as well as many other brands.

I get it, and I'm nervous to buy Samsung or LG (my own sister had an LG fridge die prematurely, twice), but if they were as bad as some people would have you believe, they would have been forced out of the appliance market years ago. I think the reality is that they sell an awful lot of appliances and, like all companies these days, they have some lemons.

Yes to your question. I had a fridge from another brand that had ice and water dispensers that were never hooked up to anything, and it worked just fine otherwise. It should do no harm to simply leave the water line unconnected, and I haven't seen an ice maker that couldn't be turned off somehow.

My Samsung has been running strong for 8 years. Stay away from Whirlpool and KitchenAid they are trash.
Yes. Purchased a brand new Whirlpool Gold French door fridge that leaked like crazy after year 2 - even after repairing it multiple times.

Nothing's worse than waking up in the morning to grab something from the fridge and there's water everywhere.

I will NEVER buy anything Whirlpool ever again

Luck of the draw with most appliance brands these days … our Samsung refrigerator is still running well after 5 years.
Wait 1-2 more years. Our 7 year old old Samsung has been nothing but trouble in the last 2 months.

I heard Samsung refrigerators are the most reliable in the industry when it comes to prematurely breaking down.
Bought a Samsung refrigerator, whirlpool oven, whirlpool gas range and Bosch dishwasher. Samsung had water accumulation inside, fixed by levelling it. No other issues.

Both whirlpools broke down. I will consider Samsung, but not of the whirlpool brands(KitchenAid, Maytag etc). LG refrigerators are total garbage and have known compressor issues. I don't know what else is left out there.

Having said that, I wouldn't touch Samsung washing machines with a 10 foot pole. Those things explode.
