This is the lowest price in years (or likely ever) on these classic headphones. They have been in production since 2003. I would've jumped on this deal if I didn't already have two pairs of Sennheiser wired headphones.

I have a family member who could use a set. But they don't need anything this fancy. Or do they...? Scratchhead

I own these. They were my first low-mid tier headphone. I still enjoy them as they are bass heavy compared to my open backs. Unlike most mid-tier headphones, they drive to loud levels off of normal sources like a cell phone or MP3 player.

I do believe that a pair of HiFiman 400se B-stock for $59 is a tremendously better value if you can wait for them to have stock, but you could always have both.

How much would the not fancy ones cost? Probably still like $40? May as well spend a few more and get WAY better headphones. Anyone can tell the difference.

Alot of places have them for $10 more so it doesn't look like a huge one time discount. People say they sound very neutral and low on bass.

They are pretty heavy on low bass. They have way more perceived low bass than something like an AKG K702, HiFiman 400se, or Sennheiser 6xx. Perhaps they might be less bass than some relative comparison, but to say low on bass is ludricrous.

Can anyone tell me if these are better than this:
https://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR75...0IHOY?th=1

I bought those Sonys in a rush cos i needed closed back, but the clamping over time is so uncomfortable, and the pads sit on the ear

I made passion with these on and didn't hear anything other than my wife and girlfriend. These are stellar headphones for the price

If you aren't satisfied with the Sony's, then it makes a perfect sense to try the Sennheisers.

So I believe there were 2 versions of this model. Some prefer the old version electronics. I will say if you have a big head, you might consider something else. The clamp strength is great to isolate sound but is uncomfortable after a while if you have a big head. The padding has a coating which eventually wears out and gives you artificial hair as it disintegrates. 🥸

The oldest pads were way better, but it seems they haven't been using those for years. The new ones (identified by the cutout in the headband pad) are flimsy and should be replaced right away.

There's tons of recommendations on the audiophile forums, but it seems like the latest innovation is in cooling gel foam.

Do they make them in a sort of ashy-blond? I'm running low on natural hair so it could be a plus?

These sit on your head like skull locking pliers, be careful. I have a set that are working good for last 15 yrs. I prefer these more than the new tech called "BlueTooth"
