This has floated ~$725 open-box at Best Buy for at least 6 months, maybe 9 months. I'm not saying it's a bad deal (especially because this is new), but these Dell G-series are heavy and not particularly refined.

4050 competitor, 10% faster but no frame gen. Has last gen processor like most budget laptops. (i7 12th gen or Ryzen 7735)

My primary issue with the 2022/2023 G15 is how they are a lot heavier than the competition, (5.9/6.2lbs vs others under 5 and a charger that doesn't weigh 3lbs)
but it also depends on if you use this as a desktop replacement since the screen would matter less too...

This deal is merely okay without AMEX as 4050 laptops have come down to $699 in the past. The QHD screen is the standout but seems like a better pairing for a 4060 or 4070 GPU with 8GB vram for that higher resolution.

Hows the battery for non gaming task? Looking to buy one for my son starting college next year whos a PC gamer currently ..but want something that can double up as a "regular" laptop during classes etc with posslbe 6 hr battery life.

I've been eyeing this (price drops to $729 at times) but I tried the demo at BestBuy and didnt like the keyboard flex but everything else is supposed to be good. This was $720 and $750 just before new years.

Battery life is not good on the G16. About 3-4 hours in most tests. And the lack of of USB-C charging means you have to carry that massive 240W charging brick with you. So, no, I don't think this is a good laptop for college students. This more of a desktop replacement with the occasional travel, not for daily portable carrying.

Look at the Lenovo Slim Pro X [ebay.com], oos now but it went as low as $620 last month. Light weight with good battery life (6-7 hrs). Decent compromise between a daily carry laptop and a gaming laptop.

Aight...thanks and much appreciated. I'll keep on looking. I looked up reddit and other forums and the Asus TUF 16" does get about 6 hrs for non gaming according to real world reviews so I might jump on that next time it falls to $729 again.

Similar to the one you looked at.

Just an FYI. I have seen many reports stating that this laptop is running very hot at idle. So be sure to check your temps when you get it. You may run into thermal throttling issues when using the laptop for anything require real processing.

How are the hinges on this model? The ones on my Dell Inspiron broke after a little more than a year. I understand this to be a common problem with Dell laptops.

Inspiron 16 13700h 32gb 1tb SSD with 4060 for 928 before Amex was available at the beginning of December. These were available too but so ugly.

Good deal to be honest. If you care only about performance per bucks, we used to get 900 range for 2060 and around 1000-1100 for higher end lenovo.
Keep in mind that g15 has always been a little bit inferior built laptop, but still better than cheap gaming laptops of other brands. Lenovo legion would be a better built laptop, but for mid 750s can't complain cause it will run all stuff on 1080p.

I was able to use a 10% coupon and split payments to both my Amex platinum and business Amex platinum. 120 off 599 on one and 200 dell credit on the other.

I'm deciding between these three 16" laptops. Which one would you choose?

1. ASUS TUF A16: 16" FHD+ 165Hz, Ryzen 7 7735HS, RX 7700S, 16GB DDR5, 512GB SSD $829.99

2. Acer Predator Helios Neo (Cert. Refurb): 16" FHD+ 165Hz, i5-13500HX, RTX 4050 (140W), 16GB DDR5, 512GB SSD $689.99

3. Dell G16 7620 Laptop: 16" QHD+ 165Hz, i7-12700H, RTX 3060, 16GB DDR5, 1TB SSD $765

Dell. Predator helios is a better built laptop but in your example has lower tier hardware (i5+4050).

Asus tuf is the cheapest plastic one can buy to tuck somewhere and never touch it again.
