7520u is based on Zen 2. Zen 4 is out. Tricky naming to make people think that they're getting the new new...

Don't expect gaming performance on this like the Ryzens of yore.

Doesn't even have Vega gfx... 610m is weak sauce.

Yes, AMD is playing the name games on the 7000 mobiles, this is the bottom Ryzen 7000 chip and is a rehashed 4 core Ryzen 3

Run from this one there is better options. the 7530 is a 6 core

Passmark 9,456 for CPU, so it's not too bad for the price. But as pointed out, it's not for gaming.

The 16GB RAM helps over most starters that have only 8GB. The 512GB is also a notch or two above entry level.

There is a demographic this would work out well for. No real upgrades are needed out of the box for a decent basic laptop. I'd say this fits a niche for those who do not feel like doing RAM/SSD upgrades themselves on a cheaper laptop.

The price reflects a little more than you would have invested to do them yourself on a $299 laptop. But still much less than choosing these factory upgrades when configuring a Dell or HP online, where they rip your lips off.

That's lower than a Ryzen 3 from 2021 or Ryzen 5 from 2020:

My point was comparing it to many entry-level laptop CPUs we see posted here with scores about half that high for $249 - $299. It is a decent score, but not outstanding by any means.

Umm, wouldn't you expect a $400 laptop to have significantly better performance than a $250 laptop?

I posted this Dell deal a year and a half ago for the same price of $400. The 7520U actually has slightly lower performance [cpubenchmark.net] than the processor in that laptop.

Yes of course. I was only pointing out the value is comparable for some, for the reasons I stated. I am not saying this is some super duper deal. Just decent as an entry-level with preinstalled upgrades you would want anyway for those less tech-inclined DIYers. Also the sub $300 ones usually have mobile processors and are complete junk or even won't keep up with immediate RAM/SSD upgrades or are chromebooks, but never say never! The hunt is always on for that unicorn which is super cheap yet well-specced with decent reviews.
Many low end Lenovos I stay clear of based on their hinge issues alone, regardless of other specs. I have yet to see claims from owners saying they have corrected that on the 3s and the 5s. But some day if they have not yet, they will.
