The 16GB RAM helps over most starters that have only 8GB. The 512GB is also a notch or two above entry level.
There is a demographic this would work out well for. No real upgrades are needed out of the box for a decent basic laptop. I'd say this fits a niche for those who do not feel like doing RAM/SSD upgrades themselves on a cheaper laptop.
The price reflects a little more than you would have invested to do them yourself on a $299 laptop. But still much less than choosing these factory upgrades when configuring a Dell or HP online, where they rip your lips off.

I posted this Dell deal a year and a half ago for the same price of $400. The 7520U actually has slightly lower performance [cpubenchmark.net] than the processor in that laptop.

Many low end Lenovos I stay clear of based on their hinge issues alone, regardless of other specs. I have yet to see claims from owners saying they have corrected that on the 3s and the 5s. But some day if they have not yet, they will.
