Next year, the IRS will launch free software for everyone. Hopefully, it will be way simpler since they already got our info.

Have used H&R block online for past 5 years. Never used download ones... if i buy this, can i use my online credentials and pull in my information from last year tax returns? Or do i need to type everything new? Also will the filing details be stored in our account online?

Download a hard copy of form 8911 from the IRS web site. Determine your 30% credit. In the H&R Block software open form No. 3800. Enter your 30% credit on line 1s. of part III. I found it necessary to also enter the value in line 1. of Part I. Your credit should now show up under "Other Business Credits".
Did u file it earlier or it's a suggestion ? With the form how can you submit it electronically? Forget about manually sending them it's not worth to use the software

I think we should NOT 🚫 be buying H&R block even it's free when you can't file it electronically with the form 8911 supported for the folks who need it

You're not understanding. The hard copy is only for calculating. You then put it into form 3800 in the software. Submit only electronically. Keep hard form for your records.

We buy software to avoid thinking so much which form to use etc .if I have think so much why use their software .I can use the free software itself.who would be knowing all this and lost of people would have missed the credit .not all look into comments from slickdeals .I get your point but it's like we jumping hoops to make their software compatible even after paying

Was just helping the guy out who said he already bought the software before knowing. Do whatever you want.

I was using turbo tax deluxe for the last 10 years, and I wanted to try H&R Block this year. Is this deluxe + state same as that deluxe + state? Could I import 2022 TT file into here and get started? I appreciate any comment / feedback. Thank you
I've used both and currently use H&R. Unless you can get a bigger discount on one of the two and not the other, I'd just stick to whatever you already used. They both do nearly the exact same thing after all (almost like it's a product that shouldn't even exist...) so the only convenience either offers is importing your data from last year.

Yes indeed. And their extremely deceptive marketing practices.
Agreed there. It's bullshit. Even further than free tax prep, there's absolutely no reason that the vast majority of Americans couldn't just get a check or bill auto-mailed to them. Every financial institution we use already sends the works to the IRS. IRS in this case is just checking if you did your homework right, and then punishes you if you messed it up. It's stupid and a waste of money and brainpower.

Does anyone know if the deluxe will let me import from multiple brokerages and enter 1099's? It seems to be impossible to get someone on the phone without an account.

Yes all H&R desktop versions import the same stuff.

You can PREPARE an unlimited number of tax returns, both federal and state. For example, if you prepared a return for fifty friends, each one would be saved under a different file name on your computer. The federal and state data all reside in the same file. So fifty files, not one hundred. You begin with the federal. When finished, you can download one state for free, then begin completing the state return but the appropriate information is already automatically transferred into it (names, SSN, address, amounts, and so on).

You can electronically FILE up to five federal returns for free. Extras cost more.

To electronically FILE a state tax return, you have to pay about $19 for each one. Unless your return is many, many pages long it's simply much cheaper to buy a stamp or two and send via USPS. If you indeed have a boatload of pages, the cost to mail might be more since it's determined by weight. It would take a huge number of pages to cost $18 in postage.

The tax companies are betting that lazy filers will just spend the extra money to e-file state returns also. It seems logical to assume that most people who do that don't visit this site much.
You are right. Earlier while in office, I had access to free printer, envelopes, etc. They will even mail it for free.
But now I have to go to a office supply store to print, buy an envelope and then go to PO, so I just pay $20, sad but will cost me almost $10 to send it physically + time
