I used to love Cici's as a teenager. Now in my mid 30s, I go about once a year to remind myself why I only go once a year. After my most recent visit (and my local store is probably the nicest & cleanest one in the whole company - a germophobe owns it) I think I'm finally going to cease my annual visits. No bad experiences, just tired of the terrible food quality. Cheapest ingredients imaginable, "high gluten" dough, watered down ranch, broccoli always starting to mold. Not to mention you always feel like crap every time you leave regardless of how full (or not) you get. The only pizza really worth it there is the flatbread-like pizzas they sometimes serve simply because it's less crappy dough, but it still has the crappy toppings. I finally learned my lesson and added it to my 'banned' list. I'm sure most people (especially those with kids) will disagree with me and that's fine (not trying to be the diabetes guy in the soda thread), just giving my two cents for anyone not familiar with them.

Pizza buffets are a dying breed. Only reason I enjoy going to cicis is to remind me how awesome Pizza Hut *used* to be.

Get the whole team together after a win and storm Pizza Hut at lunch time. Managers would panic and say "MORE PEPPERONI! MORE SAUSAGE!" as we poured in the door.

Cicis just doesn't have the same energy

I feel like it depends on the location. There's a few near me, and some are good while others are worse quality. I will say their pizzas are very oily, but you can ask them to make any pizza free of charge (like Flatbread), which is a plus.

I used to live within walking distance of a CiCi's back in the low 90's. The buffet stuff wasn't bad, but they would make whatever you wanted fresh. We knew the manager and would tip him a couple bucks and those pizzas were pretty damn good.

I hadn't been to one in eons and I went maybe 5 or so years ago to meet someone for lunch. Tomato paste and "cheese" on cardboard. I've had better frozen pizzas.

It is what it is.... stuff your face for 5 bucks, and tell yourself it "tastes good"

Cici's doesn't have waiters. It's all self-serve.

And does a robot make the pizza, or a person?

Of course, you always call for the chef 👩 🍳 at Burger King to thank him or her for the exquisite meal and slip him a few bucks.

Little Caesars $6.99 cheese or pepperoni+ T-Mobile Tuesday free bread sticks is a comparable "cheap" pizza deal. I'd argue to say the Little Caesars pizza is better quality. Let that sink in.

Little Caesars> Cici Pizza

pizza hut & dominos > Little Caesars
i'm really liking the new thin crust at papa johns. they also improved their sauce quite a bit.

It also requires Sam's membership which cost $$$$ extra.
And how often does that discount come around?

Fuzzy math to cover less variety at a higher price.
Sam's memberships are paid only by fools. They almost always have either free memberships after rewards/offers of some kind or if not then <$15 memberships. The gas savings alone is often worth the price of admission. If not, then buying one single $100 gift card for $75 just paid for it.

And $100 Domino's gift cards have been $75 every day as long as I've been a member, going on 3 years now. When they aren't they are $70.

Nothing fuzzy about it.

You must mean "low" gluten dough. Gluten (protein) is the component in flour necessary for a good/great pizza crust - just like a good, crusty bread. Cheap all-purpose flour might be ~10% protein, a high quality, red hard winter wheat flour will be ~13%. Make a big difference in both quality and cost.

I'm no chemist or food expert. The bags of (I assume) flour they use say "High Gluten" on them in large text. I've seen them transporting the bags between their back room and the prep area. Not sure if it's good or bad, but considering I see "gluten free" everywhere like it's a selling point, I assume it to be generally bad, hence my statement. If I'm incorrect about anything anywhere, my apologies.
