I have a pair. They're excellent. Very smooth sound you could listen to all day. Not bright. Not boomy. Very neutral. You can easily get away without a subwoofer if just using for music. You'll want a suborder for movies. Read the pro reviews from audioholics and sound & vision. They gave these excellent reviews at the MSRP of something like $1300 each. EASILY worth $500 for a PAIR with FREE shipping (boxes are huge and HEAVY). Btw…I'm using a denon 100 wpc receiver with zero issues. A couple issues…since they're packaged LEFT and RIGHT since the tweeters are offset, make sure you don't receive two left speakers. Also, these will be thrown around by UPS. I recommend taking off the rear speaker binding post plate and inspect the crossover with a flashlight to make sure you don't see any of the heavy crossover components knocked loose from the board. An inductor was knocked loose on one of mine, but it's stilled soldered so it works fine. I'll pull off the side passive radiator one day and secure the inductor down (the silver ring around the passive radiators are held in with magnets. The passive radiators are held in with screws). This also apparently pulled the wires and one of the wires connectors was barely attached to the speaker binding post.
All that said, if I could think of a use for these I'd buy a second pair immediately. I already have too many speakers. Lol.

I got these from a previous deal. There isn't much at the 500 price point that can compare. They're almost as flat as a studio monitor. They do need a subwoofer.

Worth is highly subjective. If you want to get your moneys worth used is the way to go with home audio. Pioneer elite to crown amp to a decent set of mains will likely sound better and get louder than most new setups and cost much less.

These like Klipsch and similar JBLs, only worth their "sale" price at best?

Good summary! Is the denon s760 sufficient for these speakers?

Depends on how far away you sit, how loud you listen, the acoustics of your room, and if you use sub(s). That being said, an amp that offers 100 watt per channel at 8 ohms and doesn't have problems with impedance dips down to 4 ohms should work fine in most situations.
Read the audioholics review. He said any midrange avr should work fine.

Thanks for your inputs. The denon s760 is 75 watts per channel at 8 ohms. Is this considered mid range?

Probably lower midrange. Borderline entry level. The X series starts the true midrange line. Again, if you have a medium to small room, don't sit further than 10-12 ft away, and listen and non-party levels, it might be fine. Best to just use them together rather than trying to predict outcomes.

Anything made after 2014. Pioneer Elite SC-57 9.1 THX Reciever is on Reverb resale website right now. I would check Facebook marketplace and other listing sites for something similar nearby though. I found an earlier model at goodwill once.

Product page mentioned "high current amp recommended " which means most classD or mid tear HT amp can't wake this speaker up and shine.

Audioholics already listened to and measured these. A good midrange AVR is all that is needed in most circumstances.
A clsss D amp that performs similar to class AB in terms of power output at varying impedance loads at similar distortion levels should be fine. The Crown class D drivecore amps would be fine.

I got the Klipsch RP-280FA with dual 8 inch woofers for a couple hundred more, and they don't need a subwoofer. Fantastic for home theater with the titanium horn tweeter. These may be more appealing for music with the additional subwoofer, no?
