FWIW I prefer a projector to having a large black rectangle on my wall when not watching.

But it is 4K right? All of the pixels are there. The more apt comparison is whether you want a low-mid range 4k TV or a mid-high range 1080p TV. It's image quality that takes a hit when they do a 4-way pixel shift.

I have a Sony native 4k projector and I will watch my 77 inch oled over it any day. Picture quality trumps immersive experience any day. And if you are going to bring up price, how much do you think a projector that will actually rival the pq of a say $2500-4000 oled tv? We are talking probably $10-20k. That's not including the high quality screen to go with it. These budget projectors are ok but nothing close to oled. Not even close to high end qled. The only advantage a humongous screen has is for watching the game with 8+ people. You have to ask yourself how often you will do that. After having a custom built home theater and projector for 15 years, if I was to do it again, I would not do a projector and just get a really big tv.

You can have a similar point of view and immersion on an 85 inch screen sitting 6-8 feet away. There are charts and tables out there that can tell you the equivalency.

Thats where individual user experience and compromise come in. Picture quality from my 135" projector definitely cant compared to my dad's 65" OLED. But I value immersion that much more. Until some manufacture can produce a 120" oled for less than $10k, I will drop my projector without a heart beat, until then, I will stick with projector for now. I will compromise on color/quality/convenient for big screen. Just like you compromise on screen size for everything else. Your priority is not the same for everyone.

Having seen oled, i do understand why you prefer oled over projector. However, sitting 6' from a TV to get the same view as a projector is just weird. I tried that and it just doesnt work. The feeling is not the same. There is no space, cant stretch or lying fown with 6 feet from the TV, it also messes with furnitures arrangement.

That sounds great for a man cave setup. But it would not work in my family room of 17 by 25 feet. It would take an awkward chunk of the space and messes with all furnitures arrangement; whereas my projector setup is perfectly aligned in the center and my sofa is set around 2/3 of the room. If I only have a man cave/basement, I wouldnt pursue a projector setup in the first place, Oled all the way for 85" and below.

Although it comes down to individual choice, I will say this. All of my friends who've tried a projector, never wants to go back to a TV, ALL! This is regardless of how much more perfect the image on a TV could get. I am in the same boat, the experience of big screen offered by projectors is unmatched by anything else available yet in TV form(OLED included). For anything and everything I use my projector. The TV just sits there, pretty much unused to the point that we moved it to our garage, none of the family members are now interested in it anymore. I totally get it when one goes for a TV due to room constraints, but otherwise it's a lifetime "NO" for me and those I know. Not saying for argument's sake, but for me immersive experience offered by projector(even a quality 1080P model) on a 120/150 inch (even if it's just a wall)trumps PQ offered by OLED TV
