A Coolermaster Hyper212 isn't as competitive as it used to be, and the ease and quality of life improvements (like easier mounting, future warranty socket compatibility) are worth something. But the bang to buck ratio of thermalright's twin tower coolers can't be beat!
Real pricey. A CM 212 will be just as good for less than 30.
The CM212 will not be as good. Different market for those two. One is to have a cooler, the other is for serious overclocking and performance. Sure, CM212 will cool your chip, but not even as close as a be quiet! will.
I posted it since I was in the market for a high end cooler for a i9 setup and this happened to be $99.90 just yesterday morning. Thought I would share with overclock enthusiasts and gamers that might be interested in it.
What? no... they aren't even close in performance.
CM 212 might be close to Dark Rock Slim but not this one.
When you say performance, does it mean this cooler will yield better overclocking results?
I don't see how that's likely given that they're both air cooled.

Unless you're jumping on liquid cooling the results of cooling performance I really doubt are that great. Both seat aluminium/copper heatsinks on cpu and blow away the heat with push & pull 120mm fans.
Seems more of a aesthetic thing to me and the quality of the fans than anything else.

Result between different air coolers are night and day.
Dark Pro 4/5 and Noctua D15 are known to even outperform many liquid cooling.

Yes.
Every cooler has a TDP rating. TDP rating for CM EVO 212 is 180W while the rating for the Dark Pro 5 is 270W. Not all air coolers are built the same.
Many things affect air cooling performance as it does for AIO's or any water cooled system - heatsink design/size, fan size/performance, heat sink material, etc.
You saying the CM EVO 212 is as good as the Dark Pro 5 is like saying a 120mm AIO performs as well as a 240mm AIO. (it doesn't)

My Noctua DH15 keeps my Ryzen 5800x 3-5C cooler than my old Corsair AIO.
Thermalright's Phantom Spirit, Peerless Assassin, and Frost Commander will outperform this for under $40. All three basically seem to match the performance of Noctua's NH-D15.
I wouldn't knock anyone wanting this particular item. Some prefer a certain look or have a brand affinity, which is fine. I chose the Phantom Spirit over the Deepcool AK620, which cost $20 more while performing worse. Even though the Phantom Spirit performs very well, no complaints, I kind of wish I had kept the AK620 because it was gorgeous.
In the end, any of these aforementioned coolers will work fine for gaming. Your CPU might operate at different temperatures depending on the cooler, but they will all keep your CPU at acceptable temperatures without thermal throttling.
But, if you you want the best bang for your buck and better performance, look into Thermalright's coolers.
Hardware Canucks and Gamers Nexus have multiple reviews including all these coolers. (The Phantom Spirit is the successor of the Peerless Assassin.)
