I have this in the higher configuration by Kitchen Aid. I can tell you that I love it way more than my old box looking one. The dual chrome steel vent fans in the Kitchen Aid move about 500 cfm and work good. This is a good budget deal for sure. Whirlpool has excellent brand reputation. I owned a magic chef OTR that was 40 years old made by them so Whirlpool lasts. If you need a deal look no further, if you want all the bells and whistles get the Kitchen Aid version from Costco for double the price.
I bought this a few weeks ago for 370$ including taxes from Home Depot. I just installed it Friday. It's very nice. It will vent all the ways, wall, ceiling and recirculating. The vent is very strong 400 CFM.
First time post looks great

The video they show with installation indicates there is no duct, it's recirculating? It says converable, but can you vent it up?

I've owned this microwave for almost 4 years now, and I believe when I was doing Initial research, there's no performance difference between this model and the KitchenAid. You're simply paying for the KitchenAid badge.

This product is great, although ours starts to get kind of warm and the plate motor makes interesting noises if we do any extended cooking over 15 minutes.

Convertible
There are plates to move/install, depending on duct or ductless

It's a great microwave to replace what used to be just a range vent. You rarely need to nuke much taller than a plateful, anyway.
We like it so much, we kept it through a kitchen remodel. (Even though we had already purchased a "full size" over-the-range microwave)

This is actually excellent but at this price point I am thinking of keeping my low profile hood and just buying a compact microwave instead. I wish I knew about this before I bought my hood for $150. I can't get rid of it now but honestly this is an excellent combination without taking up too much space.

I have the Samsung version of this. I installed it to replace a regular OTR microwave, and the additional space is fantastic for cooking. I almost never miss the lost "height" in the microwave. Maybe when trying to microwave giant tumblers of coffee or something?

The thing that drives me nuts about every "low profile" OTR microwave is the hinge system. Unlike a regular model, the entire door opens up (not just 75ish% of it), and this really can be cumbersome. You always feel like you are going to hit yourself in the face. For the life of me, I don't understand why they don't allow these types of microwaves to hinge up and not out. It would make so much more sense and be so much easier.

What's the difference between this and regular over the range microwave?

I actually bought this one years ago and it's unopened:

I really don't like the teflon/nonstick coating in it (probably crazy but I don't trust it) so it's just been sitting there. However...last week our microwave died and kind of forced my hand.

I got this in April 2020 from Costco with extended warranty, assuming it would die within 7 years and be free. My bet just paid off when the door opener failed. Allstate sent a tech, then gave up and refunded the $500 I paid. I disabled the door opener motor and just manually open and close the door.

I have it setup to rear vent straight through the wall and it's better than a typical microwave vent, but it's no match for a real range hood. When it dies, I'll install a hood.

If you have short people, consider that the platter sits nearly 10 inches higher than a standard OTR microwave. My wife and her mother are constantly knocking the plate off the spindle and it stays that way until I see it and fix it.

Great effort OP but this is typical price YMMV

If you can get an Open-Box Excellent +/-$321.99 go for it and buy the 5yr warranty also at a discount ($99) retail ($119).

I did just with a the samsung slim line.

I bought the Samsung - 1.1 cu. ft. Smart SLIM Over-the-Range Microwave with 550 CFM Hood Ventilation ( Model:ME11A7710DG/AA ) ( Best ventilation on the market #1 reason i bought it)
Heating is great as well.

Samsung ME11A7710DS
Retail $449.99
Geek squad warranty (5yr) $119.99

Samsung ME11A7710DS
Open-Box Excellent $278.99 (Mine was never taken out of the box)
Geek squad warranty (5yr) (open box) $99.99
(( WIN ))

Also note the magnetron warranty is 1 yr for the whirlpool, 10 yr for the samsung mentioned.

15 DAY RETURN PERIOD FOR BESTBUY ON OPEN BOX.

Pick this up at Lowe's early last year for $350. Doesn't work as well as my standalone LG I had. Seems like it takes 30% longer to heat up a cup of water. Also the fan is very loud and I don't like that the lights are not natural light color. Still very dim when cooking. Not sure if I would buy it again.
