Would've been a great deal if the 8gb RAM was not soldered.

DO NOT get a 8GB machine. I bought the previous generation of this laptop in 2022, and when it is placed side by side to a machine with a CPU with similar performance but 32GB of RAM, after opening a few browser pages and a few applications, the slowdown is very visible. Don't cheap out on these "deals" and then regret it later. I wish I didn't waste my $500+tax on that ZenBook.

Soldered RAM is not the problem, its the 8gb that is. LPDDR5 is always soldered so until that changes, thats the way it is.

8GB and not upgradable? That's a deal-breaker!

I have a Vivobook from 2017, 8gb RAM, I5, 1tb HDD, added 500gb Crucial SSD as main, still works pretty well, even with several tabs of Chrome open. Sure the fan goes whirling harder, but not really any severe problems. There are occasional crashes, but that's Windows, every once in a blue moon. For basic word processing, spreadsheeting, surfing and streaming, seems like a pretty darn good deal. 3.5 lbs, not bad. And I've seen these Asus 14.5" OLED screens at Costco, extremely nice. I believe this size does not come with a sd card reader, will need dongle. Also, check out your zip code for taxing. On a $700 laptop, I'm in a good zip code, saves me almost $25 in taxes to have it shipped to me, instead of buying it in store.

I still have a laptop from year 2011 (13 years ago) which came with 4G of DDR3 RAM.
The RAM was removable and it now has 8G of RAM. (DDR3 seems to max at 8G)
It is hard to believe they still sell new Windows laptop with fixed 8G of RAM in 2024.

No, that's not acceptable. With any operating system, it is an issue if it "crashes" from time to time.

Poor choice of phrasing. No blue screen of death crashing. More like apps suddenly crashing, once in a blue moon.
