I'm from central Florida and knew what venison was by about age 7. I think we're just being trolled.

Is it really 'unnecessary' though? It's preserved, unrefrigerated meat - got to put something in it as a preservative if not using modern chemical preservatives, salt has been the go-to preservative for meat for millenia. Do you have a preferred suggestion for a low or no sodium preserved meat product instead?

great price, unnecessarily high sodium content, 1/3 DV for 1.3oz serving
The FDA has extremely low and misguided amounts of sodium intake. We need salt to not only survive but be truly healthy as well. Two links below for reference on this statement; one an article the other a book (check out the review comments and listing description)

I haven't had their venison, but I've had other meats bars from them and every single one has been a massive salt bomb. Personally I wouldn't eat anything from them, it's just too salty.

Regardless of guidelines, it's pretty easy to overconsume salt since they put it in everything.

Lots of salt coupled with low physical activity and food with low water content(less fruits and vegetable, more processed food and breads) is a dangerous combination.

Since electrolytes are vital for cell function, their concentration is uner tight control, mainly regulated by the kidneys. It's okay to eat less salt for some time, as the kidney will maintain blood levels from storage. If you regularly eat large amounts, the kidney will be stressed to store it and get rid of it.

I'll try a box - there is also a coupon for 40% off a S&S, so it was $10 for one box.

Feel free to read the article, it is sourced with dozens of links direct to NiH studies among many others to backup the claim that FDA limits on sodium are not proper.

"The Problem With Low Salt Diets
When you don't get enough sodium, your body goes into sodium retention mode. You release sodium retention hormones (aldosterone, renin, angiotensin, and norepinephrine) that make your kidneys retain sodium.

Unfortunately, these hormones also raise blood pressure. Why do you think sodium restriction is linked to elevated blood pressure in healthy people? It's those pesky hormones. This seems counterintuitive, doesn't it? Welcome to complex systems!

Osteoporosis is another consequence of a low salt diet. Your bones serve as a sodium reservoir—and when you limit salt intake, your body pillages that reservoir of not just sodium, but also calcium and magnesium."

I've eaten all the Epic jerky. It is a little moist compared to other jerky so it's easier to chew like a slim jim. Venison has the most protein amoung the flavors. The price is back to precovid days.

sure for example jack links peppered flavor is about 25% less sodium than this product, not saying is any heathier, just throwing the number since you asked. Also, this thing has 27% DV sat fat per serving, while most jerky is almost fat free, about 2% per serving. Not sure why such high fat in jerky as venison is pretty lean
Depending upon which Jack Links peppered product you are talking about, one has the same amount of sodium, but some others do have less. The one with less sodium has a lot more sugar, plus MSG, & sodium nitrite. Some of them have wheat too. At least the sodium in this product is sea salt, & there is no MSG, etc.

Fat & sodium are not the enemies. The right kind of both are essential to good health. The standards set by the agencies that approve things like Twinkies, but say natural things are bad, are not reliable sources of health advice. Their recommendations & standards are funded by those with everything to lose if people knew the truth because they could not peddle their drugs & other toxic substances.

Venison = Deer meat . . . huh, I never heard of that word until now.
I've heard somewhere that in English, animals are generally named according to the German root, but the meat we obtain from the animal is taken from French: pig/pork, cattle/beef, deer/venison, chicken/poultry,

I've had various versions from Epic, from Venison to Grass Fed Beef. The first thing I will mention is the texture. This isn't like eating normal jerky, it is like they grounded it up and mushed it back together. Almost similar to sausage without the casing. You wouldn't think it would be a big deal, but it definitely made a difference.
Also, I was able to taste the the preservatives. I don't know how unique I am on that matter, but it wasn't that good.

The verdict was that out of a few different boxes, we've never finished one. I had trouble giving them away. No one in my family liked them. The texture mixed with preservatives was just too much for me to enjoy. It wasn't "un-eatable", just wasn't something I would actively seek.

I had EPIC when they first came out. I just hate the texture of it. Like mashed meat mixed in with chalk. I love jerky but this thing is just like.. why?!
