Lots of salt coupled with low physical activity and food with low water content(less fruits and vegetable, more processed food and breads) is a dangerous combination.
Since electrolytes are vital for cell function, their concentration is uner tight control, mainly regulated by the kidneys. It's okay to eat less salt for some time, as the kidney will maintain blood levels from storage. If you regularly eat large amounts, the kidney will be stressed to store it and get rid of it.

"The Problem With Low Salt Diets
When you don't get enough sodium, your body goes into sodium retention mode. You release sodium retention hormones (aldosterone, renin, angiotensin, and norepinephrine) that make your kidneys retain sodium.
Unfortunately, these hormones also raise blood pressure. Why do you think sodium restriction is linked to elevated blood pressure in healthy people? It's those pesky hormones. This seems counterintuitive, doesn't it? Welcome to complex systems!
Osteoporosis is another consequence of a low salt diet. Your bones serve as a sodium reservoir—and when you limit salt intake, your body pillages that reservoir of not just sodium, but also calcium and magnesium."

Fat & sodium are not the enemies. The right kind of both are essential to good health. The standards set by the agencies that approve things like Twinkies, but say natural things are bad, are not reliable sources of health advice. Their recommendations & standards are funded by those with everything to lose if people knew the truth because they could not peddle their drugs & other toxic substances.
Also, I was able to taste the the preservatives. I don't know how unique I am on that matter, but it wasn't that good.
The verdict was that out of a few different boxes, we've never finished one. I had trouble giving them away. No one in my family liked them. The texture mixed with preservatives was just too much for me to enjoy. It wasn't "un-eatable", just wasn't something I would actively seek.
