I'm guessing this is only for groupon accounts that have existed for a while. I was going to buy both Windows & Mac.. but I guess not.

All Groupon, Stack Social, and other Media Marketplace transaction sites, are selling re-purposed re-used software install codes from an internationally-based install-code finder ("NerdUsed"). They go by many names and are on many sites selling their install-keys from $1.50 to $50 per code, depending on the country, site fees, etc. They'll sell the same key-code on a site hosted in Turkey or Indonesia for $1.50, as they will in a U.S. branded marketplace site for $20-$50.

"The key worked" does not equal "you're the new owner of a valid software license for life". Install key codes are not software licenses, and all software license categories are not the same. Having found, or bought online, a BMW key does not mean you own a BMW for life, but we could get some months or years out of it.

People and companies pay different software prices depending on status (developer, non-profit, student, large corporation, government, etc.), by volume purchased, and by term (one-year, student-years, MSDN developer annual fee payments, etc.). Sadly, software today is more connected to the cloud (for updates, upgrades and authenticity checks) than left alone on one's computer. It was better in the old days when software could be left alone. Not anymore.

Try not to purchase with your real personal details, as Groupon (and the others) feed your details to the internationally-based code re-distributor. They're not being sent to Microsoft for obvious reasons.

Let's say I'm using Windows 11 Pro right now and install office 2021 using this key and then later decide to upgrade my GPU and do a clean windows 11 install. Will I still be able to use the same office 2021 key?

Yes. If it asks you to reactivate, use the same product key. If you run into issues, contact MS customer service.

Why would you have to reinstall Windows to switch out your GPU? That sounds like a huge waste of time.

It's not always necessary but if switching to a new GPU manufacturer ( Nvidia to AMD for example) and you have issues then best practice to isolate issues would be to start from a clean OS install which in a lot of cases can resolve a lot of driver issues that one can run into in a scenario like this. Not ideal but sometimes necessary.

AFAIK, the ones that require a MS account to activate will allow you to do this. As long as it's not a phone activation type of deal, I think this should let you do what you asked. However, it's a PIA to find the MS Office download from your account when you try to go back and re-install it. Took me several steps just to find it and let me download the software after I needed to reinstall Windows on a PC, but it definitely can be done. No product key required after it's tied to your MS account.

Yes. If it is tied to your MS account, you can even move it to a different computer every 3 months. I moved it to a different laptop near the end of last year.

Just got a new win11 pc and it's plugging office 365. Having an EDU email I can get it for $3/mo, and it comes with 1tb onedrive. OR 2021 version and no onedrive. I probably wouldn't really use much of the true web aspects of o365 but I use onedrive pretty regularly (but don't pay for it currently)
