None at my store either but I was able to get price matched. I got 2 but had to pay $9 shipping. Wasn't too bad once I split the cost with my buddy. $32 each

Nobody in their right mind would ever assemble something like that guy did with pocket holes. In the real world, for most projects anyone would realistically contemplate using pocket holes for, the other end of that piece would also be attached, making it far more difficult to pull the screws out.
And if you're concerned about strength, then don't use the weakest scrap wood you can find in the dumpster like he did. You can also put in more screws, use glue, or add more reinforcing pieces if you're worried about the stresses involved.
