The Wonderboom 3 was this price for Black Friday. The 3 has true stereo pairing EDIT and so does this apparently, and somewhat better audio quality and battery life. All still use micro usb to charge.
have the first gen - honestly sounds really good for it's size. Also got these cool photos of it

Hideous color but a great speaker. It's not going to work for a noisy pool party with 50 people but for working/relaxing in the backyard, it's perfect

It's a dope little speaker, but man oh man who thought of this color???

It really does a nice job though for the size so for $40 I think it's worth a try.

Cool color! I've had the 1st gen Wonderboom as my bathroom speaker for years and its awesome, gets really loud, and battery lasts a long time. Though if the Wonderboom 3 has true stereo pairing then thats worth getting those for $50ish on ebay or $60 on amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KX27KGN

There are so many amazing compact speakers available nowadays (name brand or otherwise) that I can't imagine even considering this model at this price. Maybe $10-$15 and I would pull the trigger just out of curiosity. I own WAY too many Bluetooth speakers and just can't understand why people limit themselves to brands and models like this at these kinds of prices. Micro USB charging is enough to make me walk away but the price makes me leave even faster.

I highly recommend exploring your options via reviews to get a much better bang for your buck

What brand/model would you recommend as better?

There are so many options available with varying features and specs that it is very subjective (which is why I encouraged people to research before purchasing). However, if I was forced to offer recommendations, one of my most recent discoveries that quickly turned into a favorite speaker of mine lately has been a "Boomcore" Bluetooth speaker. I paid $22.45 for the first one I bought and was so impressed that I bought a second a couple of weeks ago for $12.95 on sale so I can use them in TWS pairing and they are excellent. An incredible bang for your buck.

The black color of the speakers I bought is not currently available at those prices but you can get a different color variant two-pack for ~$40 on Amazon right now which is just a ridiculously good deal in comparison to this UE model (type C charging, options for single use or stereo paired)

I also recommend checking into the latest offerings by Monoprice for sales and budget friendly models that punch above their weight class.

There can definitely be a big difference between buying name brand and a budget speaker but I have found myself reaching for my Boomcore speakers more than I ever do with my JBL Go 3. Another model to consider (depending on budget and performance desired) would be the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 for ~$50.

*UPDATE* as of 11am on 1/10 the Boomcore two pack (teal/orange color) is only $32.50 when both coupons on the page are used. Far better deal for great sounding, versatile speakers. I wish I could share a link to the page but I was warned that my comment would be removed if any mods happened to see it.

I went down a rabbit hole recently on bluetooth speakers and ended up at Best Buy to test them all. Ultimate Ears, JBL, Marshall, Sony, Bose, and others. I was blown away by the Marshall Emberton II. It's insane. Only problem is it's $119 on sale. So I have held off for now.

Other ones that sound good and have solid reviews are the JBL Charge and JBL Flip.

I do have a UE Wonderboom first gen and the original UE Roll, and they are still going strong. But I hate micro USB so I always forget the cable at home when travelling.

I can only speak from my experience of owning the ultimate ears Boom 3 speaker but it was the worst sounding speaker I have ever purchased. Weak bass and very muddy mids made it difficult to even make out details on songs. Everything just sounds terrible and muffled. I hated the speaker and recently sold it. I have several speakers ranging from Bose to JBL to Harmon to Anker and I would never purchase a UE speaker again. The sound quality is abysmal.

If you don't already have a ton of microUSB devices (why though), you probably don't want to get this.

Tribit or Sony XB13 are both good usbc options.
