I'm looking for a gaming laptop that's relatively thin (1" 5lbs or less), 14-16", higher than 1080p res (1440+), upgradable ram and ssd, has respectable battery life (6+ hours for normal work), and has at least a 4060 for less than $1000 (on sale/open box is fine).

Is that this laptop in a nutshell? Seems to check all the boxes except maybe battery life.

Should I be looking elsewhere? I've been looking at the asus zephyrus and tuf, Lenovo legion 5 and loq, and even the hp victus. I wonder what other options I might have? Which would yall choose?

Wait for bestbuy zephyrus 14/16 to be on sale, the open box version will be under 1k

If battery life is a major consideration, the TUF's have 90whr battery.. that being said, it's tough to go wrong with a Lenovo Legion, they are a very well-liked laptop with excellent build quality and the cooling system is much better than most of the competition.

Also, for battery life, you can always disable the turbo boost and reduce the screen refresh rate, I imagine around 6hrs is quite possible on this Lenovo here if you're not doing anything particularly CPU/GPU intensive.

Why do you recommend zephyrus? I did see they got refreshed at CES so they gonna start sales to get rid of the old ones I bet

Models that get announced at CES often come out in Q3 of the year. The 2023 model is only about 6 months old. Things won't be clearanced out for some time yet, but the G14 was sold for $1100 over the holiday season.

2024 G14 starts at 16GB of fully soldered RAM. I'm not sure how many resellers will sell the 32GB model, but that's a huge limitation of the G-series in the future models. The OLED would fix the rampant blacklight bleed (not ips glow) issues in the 2023 model, but they appear to have destroyed upgradability and thermals in the new models.
