I miss slick deals.

I think it's more likely that you just don't realize a Slickdeal when you see one.

This is the lowest the Citation 500 has been in a very long time when they are even in stock. They have sold on eBay from disreputable sellers for upwards of $350.

You might think $230 is too much for a smart speaker, but go ahead and post a better deal for a stereo speaker with dual woofers of a good size, dual tweeters, and smart speaker functionality. This is the best on market for this price.

I dont own one but have looked at them previously. This is definitely a slickdeal compared to any website selling these speakers and this is first party. I've seen them listed for much more than $350.

When they were out of stock, they were selling for over $400. Compare it to the price of a Sonos with two 5" woofers and two 1" tweeters. It's a steal for a preassembled smart speaker. The arguably only better value it building a DIY setup from Parts Express. These sour commenters are clueless because they don't know the difference between these and a beach party speaker for $40.

Yet if one of use common folks steps out of line even in the slightest , we get 'warned' Tired of forums and their moderators acting like gestapo. Any other SD competition that's similar with activity? Lately it's been mediocre here, increasingly so for past year.

Who are these staff and why are they allowed to? Are affiliate monies pooled and shared among them?

About 5 years ago there was a shift where they went corporate. Could never get the info on where the real deals went. If you weren't around back then we didn't get stuff for free; sometimes we were payed for them. The corporations could see where the web traffic came from an began communication with SD. If I recall some threats were being made even. Definitely a few payoffs later an the whole site got revamped. There are other sites out there you can find if you happen to search specific SD postings. I'm gonna assume the old regulars ended up at bulletinboard/fourm sites. Would be best if they didn't allow Google to monitor them/add them to searches an used redirects. other than a new place I'm checking out today I've not had any leads that looked promising. Seems like all the "popular" deals have a lot of thumbs up and no comments. I'd imagine all the staff thumbs up each other's deals to make them popular. Sad how easy it is to scroll through and instantly know what deals were posted by staff before even checking.

Regardless of your own opinion, it is now 4 years later and just as Sonos Arc used to fetch 1000+, it doesn't anymore. Above all else, how does a newly posted deal race to frontpage instantly, goes from +10 to 2 thumbs up and not be shill? hi, you said 2 separate issues: the warnings are issues by moderators/community team, which is different from the team that posts deals. unfortunately, I cannot comment on the warnings as it's not my department, but if you have a very specific issues, send me a PM, and ill try to get some info on that.


as for the 2nd part, yes, we have a dedicated team who's job is to post deals. they go through vigorous training in formatting, researching, and any other aspects of individual deal and are closely supervised for many months upon hiring.


however, anyone is allowed to post deals, so sometimes we have other staff who may like to try their hand at it or they stumble upon a deal and want to share it, why not? if you don't like the deal or price or they made an error, feel free to let them know constructively, so they can learn from it


and to address the last point you made, NO, no one on staff is getting paid from a pool or from individual deals they post, so while they want their deals to do well and spend a lot of time researching and writing and finding them, a +500 deal or +1 or -10 deal, pays them the same.. an hourly wage




i have been here for 18 years and the 'real deals
didn't go anywhere, but here is the breakdown, actually...


back then, there were ALOT less deals, so it may have seem that deals were better. but by far the biggest issue is that may companies learned over the years, they use better software for price controls and updates, and finally, many stores where you used to get the best deals clearances, price matching, just went out of business (ftys, circuit city, tiger direct, etc)...


also, 10+ years ago, forums were dominating and by far the best way to share the deals, but now, it's moving away from that into other direction, mostly dominated by mobile services, where shorter titles, simpler deals do much better (phone trade in, price matching, rebates, etc) basically went the way of the dodo.


sometimes, I miss those days, where you'd have a $600 printer with a $300 MIR at staples, and you price match it to office depot for $300 (since they chose to do an instant rebate vs a MIR) and then file a $300 MIR and get a $600 printer for free... (ya, I did that 4 times with HP printers) but alas those days are mostly gone...





We actually have fairly specific rules when staff are allowed to vote on other staffs deals, and it's 90-95%% usually when they actually bought the deal or juse it or know it well... i.e like a normal user would.


And, our FP DE's would often discount those staff on staff votes when evaluating the deals for FP. They look for the deal to be an actual deal, vs just voting, which is just 1 element of our process.

No. Maybe it's because the community and I both know a SLICKDEAL when we see one. just because an item is way overpriced on one site, and only moderately overpriced on another, doesn't make it slickdeal.
