Virgin is part of Sky team Alliance and AI is part of Star Alliance. Who handles the baggage transfer? Which airline issues the ticket?
They are all members of IATA and as per Montreal Convention, will interline the baggage to the final destination. In this case, when you checkin at Virgin in New York, they will interline the baggage all the way to Mumbai. You do not have to pick up the baggage at London. Likewise on your return your bags will be checked and interlined all the way to JFK and you retrieve your bag at the final destination. The ticket is issued under the 932 stock

With AirIndia now transitioned under Tata mgmt, I've heard the service is improving
Ya i keep hearing this and booked Air India for my trip to India this Thanksgiving. Pathetic! Taxied to the runway and back. Technical issues ,flight grounded and we were stuck at JFK from 7 am till 9 pm with a toddler. We missed our connecting flight in India, lost a day and so much agony. Never again.

If I check for 1 traveler its showing $651 per traveler , but if I add two kids more the price changes to $1218 per traveler.. Don't know whether I can book 3 individual tickets
DOT requires that international travel plans offer 24 hours of free refunds from the time you book - so go ahead and chance it, and if you can't book the three just have the first one or two refunded - no risk!

Do you need transit visa at LHR? For Indian nationality.
If you have a valid US visa, you do not need a transit visa. If you don't have valid US visa then you need to apply for a transit visa and it is 43$ per person.

Does approved I797 work? In lieu of visa. Going to India for visa stamping. So, not sure if going to India, why does US visa matter. Thx.

My parents live there(retired 10 years ago), but my visa was denied multiple times to be able to go. I haven't seen my parents in 6 years because they're not physically able to travel to me anymore. I'm a U.S. citizen, born and raised here. Is there any work around?🙏🏽
try contacting a legislator there in your parents home state

Is there a trick to get this to work? I tried those exact dates and airports and used Travelocity but the lowest price I'm seeing $1000+

Historically yes, but it's been decent for years now.
