Got this for my daughters son (9 years old) upgraded to 16gb ram, and it runs everything he wants to play easily. On par with 1660 ti with my i7 9750h, looks, and runs better visually. Perfect for someone's first gaming laptop/school/discord etc. got him hooked on lethal Company which doesn't need much of anything to run. But garden warfare 2 flawless, dead by daylight, fornite over 144hz steady.. happy with this it will keep him happy for a long time.

I got a very similar model during thanksgiving week sale (lower powered victus model) and it performed great. I eventually returned it because the fans made a high pitch whistling noise every time they turned on. Search online for "hp victus whistle" and you'll see it's a common problem. I believe it is a design flaw of managing the airflow, not a hardware failure. It isn't super loud but it was something I personally did not want to deal with long term.
It is a shame because it worked great otherwise.

Curious - bottleneck meaning what? The i5 in this is way better than DDR4? Or it won't play Cyperpunk at 4k 240hz? What will this DDR4 actually cause?
Your choice of GPU is something to really consider for frame rates for the game you want to play. Then connectors for docking and external displays. This is more important than DDR4. I would consider things like 5lb+ weight. Then I would be concerned with 1080p and 250 nits a lot more unless you plan to use external displays in which this won't matter much. Then other things like build quality and keyboard and trackpad layout. Of course don't forget about battery life although any GPU laptop is always going to be wanting for more battery life.

I have this laptop. The guy complaining about DDR4 has no idea what he's talking about. Probably the most insignificant thing to look at. Everything about this laptop is decent except for the screen. The worst part about this laptop is definitely the screen, then the fact it only has one m.2 nvme slot. I've seen better deals than this. I got mine from microcenter for 495 open box, price for new was $550. Best Buy had the same deal.
I did add a 32gb stick of ram and a 2TB 980 Pro . Definitely need more ram but the fact that it's DDR4 isn't that big of a deal.

The difference between ddr4 and ddr5 is big *on paper*, but I highly doubt that people can feel the difference in real-world daily use. RAM speed is not the bottleneck in a computer.

There's nothing worse than staring at a 250 nits screen, but at least you addressed it. Nice little machine otherwise.
For $579, don't expect a gaming juggernaut. On paper, it's not a bad machine. The screen as some have pointed out, will not be super bright in a lit room but in a semi bright office, it is sufficient. The processor and gpu is more than enough to handle most computer needs. There's nothing wrong with DDR4. 8GB ram is low for today's standards, if you intend to game, 16GB ram is minimum in my opinion. All in all, an ok system, just don't expect first rate gaming at this price.
DDR4 isn't a problem on this laptop, it's only got an RTX 3050. The laptop IS overpriced- but only because when you're closing in on $600 you should at a minimum be getting a 4050 these days.

Have a link to a 600 dollar 4050 with same specs?
