  • About the product:
    • Anbernic RG35XX H, a gaming handheld that was showcased in late 2023, was released less than two months after the RG35XX Plus, which served as its foundation. Contrary to its predecessors, the RG35XX H adopts a horizontal layout, while the previous RG35XX series only offered a vertical gaming handheld option. In essence, the RG35XX H combines a 3.5-inch IPS display with an Allwinner H700 chipset. Additionally, this gaming handheld is equipped with 1 GB of LPDDR4 RAM, dual microSD card slots, and a 3,300 mAh battery that has been tested to last approximately 8 hours when running PS1 game emulations. Furthermore, Anbernic has included Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and HDMI connectivity to facilitate multiplayer gaming, wireless controller support, and external monitor output. In a nutshell, the Anbernic RG35XX H is the horizontal version of the very popular RG35XX Plus, a handheld that sits high in the best retro handhelds list.

Not bad for price. Depending on what you want to emulate, picking up an old 3DS (and installing CFW) would likely make one a lot happier, however.

3DS can run 3DS, DSi, DS, GBA / GB, N64, SNES, NES. DS goes without saying, but the 3DS has the GB kernel and a more native experience. Certainly, most old retro non-Nintendo consoles will also work just fine. New 3DS can additionally run New 3DS games (very small selection) and has more processing power for potential emulation.

I don't think u made the wrong decision. Retro gaming doesn't last too long to warrant any investment. $40-ish should be the spot. Consider it as saving yourself $20 from another junk sitting around the house. Also, we do not know the longevity of these handhelds. Some owners already complained after a few months that the units don't turn on without extensive use. Others mentioned streaks in the middle of screen.

There is an old saying that the secret of happiness is not in seeking more, but in developing the capacity to enjoy with less.

Detailed review from Retro Game Corps: https://youtu.be/S6rRbb0yq84?si=xnVrD9-KQYkkdUpn

TLDW;
Pros:
- perfect size
- retro game performance
- fair price point
- nice screen
- ~8 hour battery life
- HDMI, WIFI, BT

Cons:
- touchy Dpad
- timing of release (RG35XX)
- software/OS
- color options
- better options for a little more ($90 Powkiddy RGB30)

Basically really good hardware for the price. Software/OS support is lacking, but future improvements to this could make this device a gem. If I didn't already have 5+ similar devices… I'd definitely consider this at such a great price.

Compared to the other deal this one might be better for the ergonomics. Just released too.
Dimension: 14.5 x 6.9 x 1.6cm (or 5.7 x 2.71 x 0.63 inches).

Uses the same processor -- "H700 Quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 1.5GHz with Dual-core G31 MP2". So if you can do GarlicOS on RG35XX you should be able to do it on this. They just physically changed the layout of the buttons.

Unless you miss the gameboy look or have tiny hands, this should feel better for those with larger hands although I think it's still small.

Update: same processor as rg35xx plus, not rg35xx. 1 month ago here is a quote "GarlicOS2.0 is in alpha for the plus. You should not try to install the original GarlicOS on the plus it isn't compatible (different drivers)."

I bit...I love my Miyoo Mini with Onion OS, but its too small for extended use. This should be a nice upgrade in comfort.

Thanks OP..I was waiting for this.

Thanks for this Smilie I definitely hear you on that last point. I have a number of retro emulators "laying around" (I rotate between them), and the RG351P w/ ArkOS installed is still my fave as far as pocket-ability goes (Miyoo Mini Plus is 2nd for me, but it's wider & the shoulder buttons jut out further).

I'm strongly considering "replacing" the RG351P w/ this because of the similar form factor. I truly want the RG353M, but I can't justify getting one unless it hits $60 or less since I have other RK3566-based devices already. I think everyone is anticipating a new GarlicOS custom firmware build will come along for this eventually (but who knows atm).

This has a faster processor than the standard RG35XX and also has analog sticks.

Processor and GPU is the same as the RG35xx Plus.

How does this compare to RG351P? Looks almost the same.

RG35XX H in this post uses the same processor as the RG35XX Plus, not the RG35XX. The RG35XX uses Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 (not the A53 used by the Plus and the H).

[edit] I see you corrected your post the same minute I posted..
