The nice thing about propane lamps is that it will end those pesky insects hoovering around unlike the battery operated lamps.

With battery / LED tech being what it is, what is the use case for propane lamps in 2024? Honestly, want to know. Perhaps I am missing something but weight vs light output seems like clear winner for battery powered lamps plus you can charge them via solar. Propane is great for cooking and heat but even for redundancy I'd rather have multiple battery powered flashlights vs a fragile LP lamp.

*Again, genuinely curious. Not slamming the lamp either, I have spent many many many hours with such a light while camping.

Well the obvious—propane never needs to be charged and the batteries are never dead. Also the propane lanterns are ridiculous bright; battery lanterns often claim absurd lumen ratings but fall short. I've used the Coleman propane lanterns and they are BRIGHT. Yes, hot, noisy, that's a propane lantern. But I would never be without several in my collection.

Thats true, LP is shelf stable forever. You can leave a tank full and assuming it does leak out the lamp should work a 1000 years from now. Great for emergency preparedness and lamps stored in places, such as cabins, you may not be able to recharge on a regular basis.

Still, once a tank is empty...it's empty. No way to 'charge' more propane in the middle of the woods. The propane lamp will work, but once it stops...it stops until you get back to civilization. Both techs have major caveats.

Also forgot a pretty important one depending on your location. Propane works well in very cold weather; battery lanterns often have trouble in these conditions. But yes both have their pluses and minuses - I suggest having several of each available.

That is an outstanding point. Below 20F I doubt you'd get most battery lamps working, and if so their light output would be next to zero and not last long.
