You're coming at this from the "it's cheap, of course it isn't waterproof" perspective. Many of us will be thinking "it's a kids electronic watch, of course it would be waterproof, right?"
Oneplus used to get around that with waterproofing phones by not sending it for official ratings but still adding the extra adhesive.

This is true up until it fails certification and has to go back to R&D. I'm sure it's costly to have to pay people off so you don't have to recertify.
But if they can get it on shelves a couple months sooner and then just settle for scraps somewhere down the road in a class action lawsuit, I'm sure it justifies the cost.
Tagging this for the ones upset that nobody talked about what it does.
