my roommate bought me these for my birthday because he was "making passion" for eight hours a day for five straight days this one time and he didn't want me to hear it. i didn't know what the hell he was talking about but i was planning to be on vacation that week anyway. he didn't need to know that, so once he gave them to me i spent 5 beautiful days in the bahamas and the headphones really came in clutch, and he got to make all the passion he wanted. Win win.

Headphones are a weird product that I can't ever seem to trust the internet on. I bought the XM5's brand new for $400 last year and returned them within a couple of days. Everything was flawless other than the SOUND. You know, the most important part of a $400 pair of headphones. Sony made the sound so crisp and clean to the point where it doesn't even resemble the sound of real music. Idk how to explain it any other way but they weren't for me. Ended up going with Bose quiet comfort ii earbuds and love them.

My xm4 just came in earlier today. I'm just using it for the gym. Xm5 better for that?

Edit: Xm4 seems to be better sweat resistant, and it folds. So looks like I got the right choice for the gym.

Have they gotten better? I ordered from them once and I got a crusty used headset. This is an awesome deal, and the warranty give me a little faith, but that Astro A50 I got once was garbage.

I can't say if they've gotten better, as I've literally never had an issue with them. Maybe you were unfortunate enough to get a fluke? But even then, they're really good about returns. It seems their exchange policy is just "you return, we refund, and you buy another", though.

Isn't it disconcerting that there's so many defectives for this model, enough to sell in the thousands through a refurb eShop?

They're not necessarily defective. They could have just been returned because someone didn't like the comfort or performance, or simply used them and had buyer's remorse. You could say that such a high level or returns in general is disconcerting, but that is a different issue than worrying about getting an actual defective product.

Great price. In for one and will return worst case (says free returns seller covers shipping). Been going back and forth between these and the Airpods Max as an Iphone user but at this price can't hurt to try.
