I do not recommend Spectrum Mobile. They are an MVNO on Verizon towers and when the network is congested, you have little to no connection because your priority is so low. There is also no upgrade option for a prioritized connection. I dropped them after 1 month.
I test with the following tiv samsung phones:

A14 $714
A54 $770
S23fe $880
S23+ $994
Trade in my Google Pixel 6A for $757 that I originally got from metro for $50 years ago. Makes this a true slickdeal 🫡

Seems like you can either get the full refund or over 36 months. This is from the official page
"Your offer may be adjusted based on the condition of your device. If you accept the offer, you'll either receive a credit in the form of a refund to the same credit card you used to purchase the new device or it can be applied to your Device Payment Plan. If you decline the offer, Assurant will mail your device back to you. If your adjusted offer is $0, you will no longer receive a promotional credit for your trade-in device"
Yes, I agree with that, but the way I read that is:

You can PIF for $1299, and take the $1125 off for the S23 U (512gb) which leaves you with a one-time payment of $174 - assuming in-store purchase. If you're shipping it to your home, you'd pay $1299 (+taxes and fees), then send your trade-in and get your $1125 back (to your Spectrum account, or original payment method) once Spectrum Mobile's used phone handler gets it and verifies it (Assurant, or whomever).

or

Take $1299, divide over 36mo ($36.11/mo) and then subtract the $1125 credit over 36mo ($31.25/mo) which means you'd have a payment of $4.86/mo over 36mos.

You make the decision when the purchase is made. Obviously, if you're sticking with Spectrum Mobile for 3 years, it's no big deal either way. However, if you're buying JUST to unlock it after 60 days and flip or take to another carrier... I don't think the 36mo payments will work as expected. I think the CSR told you to choose 36mos to avoid line churn.

Based on either option, you pay the taxes and activation fee up front.

Thats not what I meant. Let say I buy one line with S24, trading an old phone. Can you upgrade the same line next day for s24 again?
How could that be possible? You can't have multiple phones using the same line. How would they each unlock?

Did you have 5 phone lines?

That's exactly what I'm wondering. Folks earlier in the thread reported after they had their phone in-hand (activated) they were able to place ADDITIONAL pre-orders (with bonus storage) on the same lines.

Someone asked how unlocking works as you call in and say "hey, this phone with IMEI xxx on phone number yyy needs to be unlocked"

then I guess call back in and ask for "phone with IMEI zzz on phone number yyy needs to be unlocked"

I think not risking it for $60 has some value. But this is SD, and $60 is $60 (2x $29, but I guess you could go with the $19 by the gig plan, too).

I opened a new line today and I already see an option to upgrade. Now only question is if I order another phone then how would I unlock both the devices with one single mobile line. Anyone with experience on past year's S23/pixel deals please chime in.

When I first rolled in to the store the rep was like "oh, we can't sell them yet, but we can pre-order it" and I pointed out today was 1/31, so I SHOULD be able to purchase in store and then she looked at her screen, agreed, and she processed two phones.

She had Mon & Tue off and was like "I'm still on the weekend"

The only reason a Spectrum Store shouldn't do the deal is:
- No Stock
- Not authorized on the account
- Expecting double storage, as that promotion is not valid now
- Don't have Spectrum Internet service

They told me they're waiting for the pre-orders to go through first and told me to come back in 1-2 weeks

So the phone I was supposed to send in just totally crapped out while I was clearing it off. Screen won't turn on. Anyone know what will happen if I send in a totally different phone that is also eligible according to the website?

Does it show the 1/31 release date on the spectrum website somewhere?

That makes no sense. Folks that wanted to pre-order did so online and got them shipped. Stores should have received stock to sell to walk-in customers, and were advised to start selling today, release day. Look at previous posts indicating stores had them yesterday, but couldn't sell them.

You'd need to contact Spectrum to change the IMEI that is being shipped in. They would then let their third party know and to expect that device instead.

Well, Pre-Order bonus (double storage, which is what started this thread) was good through 1/30 (yesterday). Samsung's website shows a release date of 1/31. [samsung.com]

That's very odd. I thought if you go in-store, they will hand you the phone then and there. Would they have accepted your trade-in on the spot?
I went to a different store and they had no problem completing my trade in.

I just can't wrap my head around how that can actually work. It's not really much of a risk though because if your phones don't unlock correctly using this method, I guess you can always put them on another Spectrum plan later on for 60 days to unlock.

Awesome! Glad to hear. Strange how different stores have different policies.

For those wondering whether a locked phone qualifies for trade-in, I just traded in a Walmart Moto G Play in-store. I had to tell the salesman it's a Moto G Play 2023. The worst part is that he lied to me, saying I am not qualified for the gig plan but for the Unlimited plan. I didn't want to argue and just processed the payment. It's still a good deal though.
