Not sure what variety this tree is, but it looks like it's a lila avocado. All avocados are hard to grow in zone 8. They will definitely need protection once you get anywhere below 30f. The other big thing about avocados is that they need good drainage. If you have clay soil, then this isn't an option for you and might need to consider a large container. Even if the tree services zone8, you have to remember that the fruit won't develop correctly in cold temperatures once they reach temps into the 20s. Most of the avocado fruit is usually ready around the end of winter, which makes it difficult to harvest. I recommend growing these in zone 9 or above.

Grow it for fun, not for fruit production. You will never recover what you spent for the amount of perceived savings from the fruit that you will consume in the future.

If you like, just peel the outer layer of the seed and place with soil it on a 3/5 gal pot. Water it often and you should have a 3 feet tree in 6 months.

You were hoping it would be delivered with an everlasting supply of avocados hanging off it?
That would be ideal.

Ordered the avocado tree from them about 2 years ago. Bought the "warranty."

Shipping and all that stuff was great.

I live in Northern FL which is in the zone for this tree.

Had the first one die. Filed a warranty claim and even though it was a little past the expiration they honored that.

That one died too.

Company is great- would and have done business with them again. Not saying they ship bad avocado trees but I've had 0 luck with them. Would love to try again but I'm not sure why I expect a different result.

The faq on the site has the answer to your question.
So you know the answer, but instead opted to write this? To teach a lesson, or what?

This is what we did.

People should know that it will take 7 to 8 years for the tree to bear fruit when grown when a seed.

I did with about 10 seeds last year and got 3 trees. Two are very small about 1 foot tall, and one is about 6 or 7 feet tall. Not sure when they would give fruits but I do have fun seeing them grow.

With some fruits it depends on whether it's grown from seed or a cutting. Growing from seed to fruit can take years longer.

This is a joke. These things are much cheaper at your local nurseries and even Home Depot/Lowe's during spring. Not slick at all.

Yeah what's the reason now? Pesticides? I'm sick of CA but got no choice, the wife wants to stay here. Definitely won't be eating out much now that minimum wage is $20/hr for fast food worker
Citrus quarantine zones. Citrus tree diseases can spread even from zone to zone.
