It doesn't "gum up" The ethanol arnd gasoline seperate from sitting and a layer of water forms between them, the water and Ethanol feed a specific bacteria that forms very corrosive acid and such which eats through rubber hoses, melts fiberglass, and with aluminum carbs, heads, etc it eats the coating off and corrodes the metal. The oxidation is so puffy (it is nasty puffed up crust) that nothing flows. It is "rust" but from aluminum. Trust if it were "gummed up" you could simply run fresh gas and carb cleaner through it and restore it to health. The acid literally destroys the parts requiring replacement. This begins about 2-3 weeks after you purchase the fuel. Stabilizer does not inhibit this, it slows it but it doesn't neutralize the effect.

Comes up as $899 with veteran account. Damn good deal, but I have one of the older models without bluetooth already.

Worked great during a few blackouts here in metro Detroit so far. Runs my lights, internet, TV, electronics etc., and probably the microwave if I'm careful enough. I've idled it through the night without issue.

Manual says E10 is okay so that's what I run, just need to keep up on maintenance. make sure to follow the oil change guidance, and set the fuel switch to off and run it until the carb is empty before you put it away.

this looks great. I have been considering something like this, but something that would also run on propane. Any options or would I just be better off with gasoline only?

I think the days of this Honda Generator being good value are gone. There are comparable generators for $350, albeit they don't last as long and are slightly louder, I just don't see the Honda being worth 3x the price.

If you are running a business at the farmer's market or another place where noise reduction and quality is imperative, then I can see this being you jam, but keep in mind this machine is only about 5 db quieter than some of the knock offs on the market.

This.

I had an EU2000i and the world has changed beneath it. Reliable, compact, lightweight quiet generators can be had for 1/2 this cost or even less on sale. The option of propane for a similar size/weight genset is a major maintenance advantage.

Here's an example dual fuel: https://wenproducts.com/collectio...l-shut-off

48lb Wen vs 47lb Honda; 52dB quarter load Wen vs 47-58dB Honda.
There is a lighter, cheaper gas only Wen also. Champion has very similar units.

They make conversation kits for these generators, but I wouldn't bother. Just use gas.
Remember to run it out every year and it will be fine.

Honda is the best, but at this point there are other models with similar (or better) features that cost much less. I have used both Predator and Generac models that have 1000s of hours on them. The generac puts out 2800 which is all the difference for my camper A/C. It is also very quiet.
100% agree. Honda may be the GOAT , but probably overkill for most people. Champion, Generac, HF Predator, even a Wen, will meet the needs of most people for roughly half the price.

Was just recently in the market for a new whole home honda generator ... My research has left me to believe you are absolutely correct... The Hondas of yesterday were the bees knees.. However, today all the new ones are being sold with an automatic carbon monoxide sensor shut down switch.. 15 minutes of reading the reviews on all the new ones indicate the shut down switch is.... shutting the unit down while its running outside and in inclement weather ...every few hours... leaving the owner to rectify during the storm.. Big flaw.. Its so bad youtube is flooded with hacks on how to disable these faulty sensors.. I know they save lives blah blah blah.. if your dumb enough to run the generator in your bedroom while you sleep with the door shut you prolly shouldn't be using a generator to begin with.
That's very interesting, I'm going to read into this as I'm also in the market. Thank you!

I'd need the 30 amp to charge my Tesla so that I can drive to the gas station to get more gasoline to power my generator to recharge my Tesla.
TMC has a 120V outlet and this is only 1800W total which is barely a 15A so putting a 30A adapter would make no sense.

Do you have any experience with the quality differences between predator and champion or wen? It seems like a lot of people say that Predators are a very good budget alternative to Honda, however its tough to find how they stack up vs some of the wal-mart / amazon brands.

The other post recommended ethanol-free gas but that is very inconvenient. Does this Honda have a carburetor which can gum up using regular gasoline?
All engines, especially small engines, can gum with ethanol in the gas.

Some recommendations
1)don't let gas sit in it for a long time. Ie after 30 days, run it dry or empty it.
2)don't put old gas in it.

I have a Westinghouse version of this at 2200 watts and won't leave fuel in it.

Also have a bigger champion inverter 8700 watts that I do leave some gas in. However it ethanol feee and I always turn the fuel shut off switch to off and run it until carb is dry and generator turns off.

I also run both generators every 2-4 months for 10-15 mins.

Honda products run great if you treat them like a cheap Toyota product. If you let it sit with bad gas more than a season the Honda tends to need a carb rebuild more quickly than other types, by FAR. This is Honda small engines in general - other brand small engines (4stroke) tend to be MUCH better in terms of this, MUCH. Their largest inversion generators (6-7000 watts are the types I have used a TON on the job) do not suffer from this as much as their smaller products.

However, in terms of inversion generators the style they sell at Harbor Freight are FAR worse than Honda products if they sit.

On a side note, you can let your Briggs and Stratton sit for a few years and it will still run just not perfectly. But unlike Honda and Harbor Freight it actually starts...
A rebuild for a little resin? Just clean the bowl and spray out the jet with carb cleaner.

Experts,

I have a gas-powered furnace to heat the home. But it needs electricity to run the heater blower/fan. Can this be used to power the fan using the technique explained by this gentleman on his youtube channel?

Thank you for your input and suggestions.
Most likely. . If you are only running your blower and it's a gas furnace this will work.

I have gas furnance which uses 150-200 running watts. Starting watts is 450 or so. 3 ton 2 stage heat/AC

Tested using KillAWatt. My furnance is plugged in vs hard wired for this very reason.

I now have a bigger 30amp generator with transfer switch at the house, but prior to that running an extension cord from gas furnance to my Westinghouse 2200 was my heat solution. I also physically tested this out. Works perfectly.

Honda is much much better than Westinghouse. More expensive, but Honda are the best generators on the market.

If your furnace is like many in that it has a pigtail and plugs into a standard outlet then the answer is an unequivocal yes.

No as quiet as this one.
