You can most certainly run regular gas through it if you need to. Ethanol free just burns cleaner and is better for the engine. If you only plan on using it in an emergency, don't sweat it. People get nuts about these things. Pay twice as much for a Honda because it is 5% quieter than the competition. Claim you will destroy the engine if you run regular gas through it. These are the same folks that act like non-brushless tools aren't perfectly fine for 99.9% of the people out there.

Now, if I had a food truck or was in a situation where my livelihood depended on my generator being able to run daily for long stretches, I'd probably spend extra on a Honda. But I'll add, that I've noticed some food trucks in my area using Harbor Freight Predators.

I'm in the detailing business and almost everyone uses predators. They are not exactly cheap either, although more affordable than Honda. Thank you for the advice.

We have gas station here in San Antonio that sell pure gas. QuikTrip aka QT
Search around for pure gas.

Thanks. But no surprise. One, it's Texas. Fuel matters Smilie

Two, it's a warm weather state. Where at I believe ethanol is a seasons type thing in cold weather states, but maybe I'm mistaken?

But sure, I'll look around. I live close enough to rural / farm areas that maybe there might be non-eth gas all year. Thanks!

Yeah, it helps, but you really are supposed to exercise your generator regularly. Regular exercise is necessary for optimal performance. I try to run mine once a month. Sounds like a pain, but it really isn't. Especially in the warmer months, when your outside more regularly doing lawn maintenance. Just take a minute to start the generator, let it run for 10-15 minutes, ideally with some load on it (which I do occasionally). This allows the engine to reach operating temperature, cycle through all systems, and circulate lubricants.

Got it. Thanks. It's starting to sound like one of those things Honda recommends but IRL it's ok to run eth-gas if you must. Ideal? Nope. But certainly possible.

Thanks. Good to know. I'm going to pass on this anyway. I'm thinking I might as well get something larger and is duel fuel (i.e., can also use propane).

Agreed. Ive had 2 of them for 25 years and no issues. Run them out of gas when storing. What is amazing is the price. I paid $1000 each 25 years ago.

Different use cases.
- More powerful that some people need, higher fuel consumption
- Much heavier, not as portable
- Not an inverter generator, so higher THD
- MUCH louder

For running a whole house during an outage that Predator makes sense, but plenty of reasons for people to get the smaller Honda. There are cheaper similar units as others have pointed out.

This is an open frame generator rated at 78DB. The Honda is the most quiet on the market around 47-58db. The HF is also not an inverter so you should not power sensitive electronics. HF generator would be for powering multiple heavy duty tools at a jobsite.

I ordered the Honda before this was posted on Sunday after reading reviews for dozens of generators. Main takeaway's:

-Honda is quieter than Chinese clones
-Honda engine should last alot longer than Chinese clones
-Honda starts everytime. All other generator reviews are horrendous in this area.

If you are ever in a situation where you need to use a generator, you 1000% want it to start and work. The Honda is a good investment IMO. Also got $100 off 1000 for opening a HD card.
