I have no experience with the Whalen ones mentioned above, but after putting these Edsal ones together, I don't think I would have any concerns about recommending them. They're Edsal brand, but on the box it actually has "Muscle Rack" branding too, so just FYI on that if that means anything to anyone. But yeah, they're super sturdy/solid and easy enough to put together once you get the hang of it.
In my case, the instructions didn't quite match the physical parts when it came to the smaller cross-bar support things. The instructions showed these angled tabs on the small cross-bar support pieces that were supposed to slot into slits on the main shelf bar. Instead, mine just had holes on each and then nuts/bolts to attach them together. Not a biggie, but it did trip me up a little bit at first.
Pro-tip on that note: be mindful of which way the threaded part of the bolt is pointed (up vs down). I put the bolts in willy-nilly at first, but then realized on one shelf that I had at a specific height to perfectly fit the 27 gallon black/yellow bins...if I had the threaded part pointing down (instead of the flat bolt head), the top of the bins caught on that threaded part of the bolt that pointed down from the shelf above, and therefore the bins wouldn't quite fit. Had to flip those bolts to point up & then the bins fit perfectly. Hope that makes sense.
Also on that note with the bins: with the width of the shelves, those 27 gallon black/yellow bins can fit 3 on a shelf, but not 4. So with 3 on a shelf, there is some room left over that isn't quite wide enough to fit a 4th bin (if I recall, there was like 10-11 inches left after 3 bins, but the bins are like 20 inches wide). Again, not a big deal as I can fit narrower bins or etc in there, but worth mentioning/knowing.
Lastly, make sure you measure your vehicle to make sure the box will fit, and have a friend or someone help you lift them...as the boxes are pretty large/unwieldly, and quite heavy. Not worth slipping a disc to try and macho-manhandle it by yourself, ha.
Anyway, just my 2 cents on these since I very recently bought and put them together. Without having a time machine to get these at pre-covid prices, I'd definitely recommend pulling the trigger on these at $160 if your local Costco has them & you're in the market/on the fence. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk; hope this helps someone!

I don't know if you can take two of these Edsal units, remove the bottom shelf from each and use it to connect the two units to form 18 feet of shelving along a wall, as you can do with the Whalen units. That ability really makes the Whalen racks a good deal compared to smaller racks.
So, if you are looking for a lighter weight box to carry from the store and set up, this would work.

I'm more confident buying the Whalen because it seems like that is the more popular model at Costco, which would make finding matching units easier in the future.
If you need a few, the Costco Direct savings + the sale on the Whalen still makes it cheaper, if it is not sold out in your area.
I posted a long comment in the other deal post. Maybe I should have posted that one here... I forget which is which.
Honestly I would say they are pretty much equal. One does have a thicker feel to the metal, and that same version has fewer holes and the holes are larger.
The other type has more holes and they are smaller. You'd be able to get more precise custom shelf sizes/gaps between shelves this way when you have more holes to choose from.
One does feel stronger than the other... but they're both very very strong. Pretty sure they are both rated 2000lb per shelf. And I seriously doubt most people will even come close to overloading these.
You CAN make both versions work together when the holes line up every so often at the same height. For example, in my experience, leaving spaces between the shelves for 6 bigger holes lines up with 13 spaces of the smaller holes. And that's a good shelf size..
The Performax shelf pieces from Menards I mentioned in the other thread are almost identical to the smaller hole version of Costco shelves. So they will line up pretty much perfectly.
The Performax shelf pieces can also work with the big hole Costco shelves, but again only when the holes actually line up level. But they can work together.

The weight limit on each shelf is listed as 800 lbs, compared to the listed 2000 lbs for the much heavier duty Edsals in this thread. These are much lighter weight than the Edsals and Whalens, but may work for you dpeending on how much weight you place on it
I have 40' shipping containers that I use like sheds and I have these as shelves in there that go all the way down both sides of the shipping container with room to walk in the middle. So that's probably about 38' worth of connected shelving.
Both styles can be added onto indefinitely. They're like mini pallet racks. Once you get started, adding onto them is like building with Legos
2 uprights - one span of shelves
3 uprights - two spans of connected shelves
4 uprights - three spans of connected shelves
etc...
So if you bought 2 of these units, you'd have 4 uprights and could have up to three sections of connected shelving if you used fewer shelf beams per section. (I usually use 2 or 3 shelves per section. And they come with 4... so you can save the extra and put those towards your 3rd span of shelves
I have successfully mix and matched Edsal, Whalen, and Performax (from Menards) brands. These brands will work together if you find common hole heights.
I know the Performax uprights are a near perfect match for whichever Costco shelf uprights have the smaller, closer together holes. And they still work with the other kind with bigger holes when you find common hole heights. The Performax shelf beams and wood shelf decking also work with either the Whalen or the Edsal.
If you had a 72" work bench these shelves would fit around it perfectly.
I bought a 72" x 24" wood workbench top and I used it to convert one section of my shelves into a work / desk surface in my office. You will need to trim the metal on the shelf beams a little.
