It's mostly about the competition. For $240 I could pick up an Orient Mako III with sapphire crystal and a slightly better movement, or spend a bit more and move up to the $300-500 range (where there's a diverse selection of JDM models). Hardlex scratches fairly easily and is a pain to polish so I generally avoid it.

This is the SZSB014 model and it's JDM. This is a good deal as the secondary market is selling over the amazon price.

Not sure if it applies to everyone, but for me this item also has a 15% coupon, making this watch $205 + tax. Seems like a pretty solid deal to me.

No 15% coupon for me. I like the design but $240+ for Hardlex crystal isn't very appealing.

Do you think it would be worth buying this and replacing the hardlex with sapphire? How much would that cost?

No 15% off coup for me either. If there was, I would pull the trigger.

You can get a sapphire crystal for $20-80 (depending on quality), and a cheap crystal press for another $50. If you have a local watchmaker or repair shop nearby you can probably get them to do the replacement for you instead at a lower cost. It's up to you whether it's worth it or not.

Talk about from $240 to $500. That's double.

Might as well go even a little more to $1000 right
You kid, but that's how most people fall down the rabbit hole.
If someone's going to wear a watch regularly there's nothing wrong with splurging to get something they really like (as long as it doesn't break the budget).
