Rachio is still selling Rachio 3 as best seller on their site. I doubt you don't get full warranty from them.
I'm sure you're right, but I'll let others take that chance and buy a newer model if it goes on sale. We have a basic controller now that can take enough zones, so this isn't a pressing purchase for me.

Valves, pipes in the ground, sprinkler heads, controller, and wires from the valves to the controller
Which is the reliable brand wireless sprinkler controller with valves set?

Just had a Rainbird system installed last fall. I can purchase/install their wifi module for $100 or go with this system. From what I'm reading, if the Rachio cloud is down/unavailable this unit has no internal memory to run on its own? Looking at the negative reviews on Costco.com, reliability of the Rachio seems to be an issue, seems to be very sensitive to power outages.

I have a Gen2 (16 zones), only using 10... Worth swapping out at this price? No rebates or anything to sweeten it.

I installed mine 3 years ago and never had an issue with the cloud being down. Didn't even know it's a thing until I read the comments here. Even if the cloud is down your rachio will continue to run as scheduled. It will only lose access to weather and other smart features like Alexa integration, etc.

I have rachio for 3 years and never had an issue with it. Not sure about the valves. Mine were installed before I bought the house so at least 18 years ago.

I have rainbird with wifi and i use iPhone app to maintain everything from it. Is it worth to move to Rachio 3? What does it do better than rainbird
Multiple things:
  1. It connects to local weather stations and adjust the operation.
  2. Automatically adjusts to the seasonal changes
  3. The spray operation iteslf is smart (ex:- If your backyard spray is set to spray for 20 mins, it does it in intervals i.e. sprays for a couple of minutes, gives a break until the soil is well soaked and comes back).
  4. Lets you control zones and sprinklers from your smart phone.

Check you local city for discounts. Some of these brands/models qualify, if such a plan is in place by your local city.

Plan to install a new sprinkler this year and interested in a new wireless controller. Amazon has some but don't know much about the reliability. Save time for digging and install wires.

I don't understand how it would save you time on digging. Valves need to be installed next to the water source. Which is typically not near the spots you need to water. So, you still need to dig for pipes. If you install wireless valves, you need to get electricity for them from somewhere. So, now you are limited not only by the water source location, but also by the location of electrical outlets. Else, you still need wires. Also, you will be reliant on the internet connection quality, which is usually not that good outside the house. All wireless watering "systems" I found on Amazon are for controlling a single watering device, like a hose. But maybe I just didn't look too close since I'm not interested.

Yes, and last year their cloud service was down quite frequently... or at least seemed to be out every time I was working on my sprinklers. When cloud was down, could only turn on sprinkler manually.
Thanks, so I guess it does depend on the cloud to be able to function.

I live in SoCal and had Rachio for over 10 years with 0 issue.
I dont water every day. If the network happens to be down on the water day, then my lawn may be skipped for on cycle, not big deal.

Not true. It will continue operating as programmed. It will only lose access to smart features such as weather, Alexa integration, etc. And you won't be able to reprogram it until the cloud connection is restored. That said, I haven't had a single issue with cloud connection in the 3 years I have it installed.

I think this is catered to landscaping pros. Rachio still sells the 3 on their website https://rachio.com/products/rachio-3/
100% correct. Came to say the same and counter the spread of FUD.

Most water districts offer up to $250 rebate or more , depending on the zip code
Making this a $0 purchase or make $$ if you have it installed for the first time on your address
Most? LOL -- I checked every zip code I have lived (and even a few I just visited) and none had a rebate.

Do any of its features rely on cloud services? Can you setup/use it on WiFi only, and not just watering when internet is temporary down?
Yes and no. Yes - it relies on Internet for weather conditions, to enable a skip. I believe that if connection isn't there, it keeps the schedule.

I've had Generation 1 for more than eight years, and haven't had any issues. Just upgraded one of my controllers to Gen 3 (in order to start it without having to use your phone).
