Rachio Pro Series Launch
We're excited to start shipping New PRO Series Controllers on Monday, February 14 exclusively to distribution partners. The PRO Series will replace the current Rachio 3 Smart Sprinkler Controller (all Rachio 3 controllers will stop shipping after February 8, 2022). Rachio will continue to support Rachio 3 warranties which are now 2 years from the date of manufacture.
"The controller discountinued back on 2022 was the previous Pro version.
We have upgraded the Pro version of the controller so the regular Rachio 3 remains being sold and manufactured by us. Don't worry."
It seems the wording wasn't clear, and that post only applies to the old Pro model, not the current Rachio 3 non-Pro model.
After it's set up, it can run without internet. Obviously you'll need to get it back on your network if you wana make changes.
Check you local city for discounts. Some of these brands/models qualify, if such a plan is in place by your local city.

I wouldn't recommend it if you are not somewhat technically savvy. Let's say your public IP address (the one your router uses to identify itself on the internet) is 135.180.194.227. It's dynamic, meaning that you "lease" it from your internet provider, so it can change. Your Rainmachine's internal IP on your home network is 192.168.0.5.
In its simplest form, DDNS services like DuckDNS, NoIP, etc. let you create a public subdomain [yourname].duckdns.org and bind it to your public IP. Since your public IP is dynamic, they also continuously ping your router and update the binding if your IP changes. The idea is to create a static anchor ([yourname].duckdns.org) for your dynamic IP (135.180.194.227) so that when you type [yourname].duckdns.org in your browser, the request is routed to 192.168.0.5 inside your network to reach your Rainmachine.
Synology and some other advanced routers have DDNS built-in to make the setup process easier for the users. Another part of the equation is to open a hole in your firewall because for security reasons all calls that were not originated by the devices inside your network will be blocked. It's called port forwarding and is an advanced router feature. You might also need to do port mapping if Rainmachine uses a non-standard port for its web interface. The specific instructions for how to do all the above will depend on your router model. If none of this makes at least some sense, I wouldn't do it if I were you.
