It worked a few times with sales. And then they disabled it so it wouldn't work for a few weeks. Still didn't work on Black Friday but then I tried on in CM and surprisingly it worked.
And I'm talking about this specific recycle promo, not an email sign up promo or anything like that.

This has been around for a long while, but no harm in a PSA/reminder I guess. Best Buy also recycles drives and should give you a 10-15% coupon depending on the current promo.

No, they don't have to work. I've even pulled the magnets on some for personal projects. You can almost certainly ship them without (or with physically damaged) platters without any issue.

Because you're giving them what amounts to a piece of trash as far as you're concerned and they're giving you 15% off something you will actually use? Sure, it's not a HUGE discount, but if you need something now and can't wait for a deal that's 25-40% off, this is an easy way to get a discount and get rid of something you've deemed to be junk.
