Great coffee. Question is how fresh the bag Amazon ships is.

Last time I bought this the date was about a month out. This isn't a large bag to maybe it doesn't matter to some people.

Amazon no longer accepts returns on food goods. It doesn't say with subscribe and save, but if you select one-time purchase in the refunds category it says this - "This item is non-returnable due to potential safety risk associated with this ingestible product type, but if the item arrives damaged or defective, you may request a refund or replacement."

If it comes expired or damaged you may request a refund, but it's a bit of a pain. You need to go through the chat bot who will tell you a few times you cannot return it, as for more help then talk to an agent via chat or a phone call. They're usually pretty quick to offer a "One time refund" but I'm always concerned about their use of the term "one time". Over the past year or two I've had a few things come expired, opened, or just plain nasty looked (most recently dark brown mayonnaise) and it's always been resolved.
Last week they sent me crackers that expired in august. I requested a replacement and they sent me some that expired a month ago. Ended up with a refund...and a lot of wasted time

What's this about not accepting returns? If it says free returns then there's free returns.
Not for any food items...Amazon stopped accepting returns on food few months ago

I had a similar experience. They had sent me noodles and I wasn't sure if the date on them was an expiration date or a manufacturer, since it didn't specify. To be safe I called and they sent me a replacement, date on the new ones was 3 days prior do delivery, they then tried to insinuate maybe it was the manufacturing date, and refunded me when I asked if they insinuated the noodles were made, distributed to Amazon, and then shipped to me all within 3 days.

I just tried Kicking Horse for the first time this week. Not impressed at all, the flavor was off. Has anyone tried Black Rifle or Kaldi's Coffee? I am just about ready to start buying whole beans locally or from coffee companies directly. Amazon seems to be focusing more on profit than service at this point.

You're going to have 100% better luck going with a local roaster than Amazon. I'm not saying it's impossible to get fresh coffee on Amazon, but I've personally never been successful trying with a variety of brands, and I think their business model just doesn't make it realistic. Even Costco or my local grocery store has given me better results (pro tip: look for puffy bags over particular brand name; fresh grocery store brand "Private Selection" or whatever will beat old premium coffee every time)

Best price I've ever seen for this coffee, thanks OP. For those looking to try a new coffee this is better than the other brands on sale in the past few weeks.

I've not had a problem, in fact if item is out of date or wrong grind I have been told to keep the item and a refund or correct item is shipped.

Thanks. I have been playing musical chairs with coffee brands on Amazon and I now want to just stop, sit back, relax, and enjoy a great cup of coffee. Sometimes you get caught up on the SD mentality of extracting every single cent of savings on every product and every purchase. For coffee, I am going back to local roasters and quality first.

If you want great coffee, expect to pay a bit more from a premium roaster. I have a couple local places I love that deliver or ship right after roasting. I recommend looking for a similar roaster near you.

For more widely available beans, I really like PT's Coffee. They do the same and only work with fair trade sources, even visiting small producers and vetting them for good practices and treatment of workers. They aren't budget coffee, but they sell good stuff.

If you actually care about the coffee's taste, Amazon is just not the way to go. Intelligentsia is a great roaster, but date of roasting is critical. Coffee tastes best about a week after roasting and (slowly) goes downhill after. It would be like buying bananas online--Probably only works out when ordering a delivery from a local grocer and even then you'd more often be better off picking them out yourself.

You could buy beans from the best roaster in the world and it's still not going to be impressive after it's sat in a warehouse for 4 months.

For what it's worth, Intelligentsia is a good brand. They proudly put the roasting date on the bag of each bag, irrespective of where you get it from. So you can use that to gauge freshness.

Depending on your area, it may be carried at your local grocery store, or may be limited to higher end grocers (e.g. Whole Foods, Wegmans, etc).

If anyone is a beer drinker, this is the coffee they use for Bourbon County Brand Stout. Roaster is right across the street from the Goose Island Fulton Market barrel house.

If you go to return something online and it says it can't be returned, phone them and they will refund your money and tell you to keep the item.
